    Vag Com Cable options?

Was wondering if anyone has any experience or knowledge of some cheaper vagcom cable sources, I've seen a few on Ebay but not all sure as I've read some horror stories regarding these.

The only full function VCDS cable is the genuine item from Ross-Tech. A cheaper third party cable will only run VCDS lite, and that costs $99 for full registration.

it may be better to make a friend with someone local that has one also if you have a B7. There's not a whole lot you can do to justify the $350.
Or you can buy one and become that friend to all the other Audi owners in the area.

I personally believe if you're going to own an older Audi and you're a DIYer, this cable is an essential tool for diagnostics and repairing problems on your car. $350 is cheap compared for to the cost of many parts on the car. If you're in it for just pulling codes, a cheaper one might work but for gathering more information and data Ross-Tech is the only way.

Agreed. Prior to getting my cable, I definitely spent more than that in diagnostics and problems I could've fixed myself. It's hard to suck it up and fork that over, but it's an invaluable tool if you're going to work on older Audis/VWs yourself. I've spend $350 on much dumber stuff.

Thanks for the advice guys, I just need it for codes at this current time, sounds like I'll source a local pnw vagcom owner.

Rather put that 350 towards an exhaust ;-(

You can pull codes with a generic Bluetooth OBD2 reader and Torque App on android. Or a generic dongle OBD2 reader.
