Debating.

Love my car but somethings it crosses my mind that I should have a less expensive one. As we're saving for a house (Bay Area), and have a baby about 5 days away.

I have no idea what I would go for but I know this forum has similar taste.

I've had the car since Feb and already put over 8k miles on it. Perhaps something with good MPG?

The primary objective would probably saving on monthly payment, then MPG, then space and sportiness.

Our base GTI (Interlagos cloth, 6MT, no sunroof, no nav with lighting pack) only ran about $26,800. Killer value, and with stage one, just as much fun as your current. More fun in certain ways, and a very sharp car.

A loaded VW Tiguan is a nice small SUV. It's not as nice as a Q5, but it's fun to drive with a tune. I've owned three of them and the only issue I've had was a leaking sunroof on the first one. The 328d wagon is a nice car if you're wanting fuel economy.

If you can afford it then keep it. Or get a used 2.0t and you'll probably cut your payment in half.

Older Q5 2.0t with higher miles. Like, a 2011 or so. For what premium you're currently paying on the 3.0, you could get the functionality in the 2.0. We have his and hers... because neither one of us wanted to get rid of ours when putting the kid seat in.

Since I don't really need the space, I'd probably pick up a Chevy SS right now with the 20% discount. Roughly $40K out the door for a N/A 430hp V8 with 6MT, seems like a deal. However, I'm not sure how I'd live with the downgrade in quality.

Depends how much you notice that stuff quite honestly. If I put my fairness hat on, Chevy does offer a lot of "stuff" for the money, but owning a loaded Traverse as our family hauler (4-kids...) is a supremely frustrating experience. Functionally, it does everything it claims to. The livability with the thing is, how shall I say it... %^$#%#^ infuriating. Obvious cost cutting and lack of attention to detail everywhere. I can't un-see most of it now is the problem to the point it makes me want to run it off a bridge when I have to drive it. YMMV

Allroad hands down. Paddle shift, sport seats. Same cockpit feel as the Q/SQ. super comfy ride, room for the kids and gear in back.

OTOH, the Q fits the bill better. Your not saving a ton of gas $ unless you have a long commute.

Plus since your in CA. figure close to 10% tax alone. - that equals about + - 2yrs fuel.

+some of the mods are relatively cheap vs german mods. But I agree the quality does suck.

IMHO if you've got a kid on the way you don't want to downgrade in size. I find that with just one kid we're already pretty maxed out when we go on trips. A pack-and-play, a stroller, and one travel bag take up a lot of space. I have no idea how a double stroller will fit in there in a couple of months. I'll probably consider a roof carrier shortly.

If you're eventually moving to the burbs, you'd probably need two cars right? You could downgrade to something like a CRV and then eventually get a GTI as your fun car. @S-Fore is probably right though that downgrading at this point probably won't save you that much once you add in all the associated costs. You could always stop modding to save some money LOL.

Took advantage of the 20% off of the Chevy SS. Purchased it for $40k out the door and I didn't pay tax with my trade in. Very happy with the 2016 SS. Plus, with the money I saved, I have an LSA supercharger on the way. Back seat is huge in comparison to the SQ5. 6mt and LS3 were just too hard to pass up.

The reviews are right about the SS, feels just like my old E39 M5. Definitely more fun than my E90 M3.

Bonus: lower running costs.

You should have pulled the trigger.

Had to drive 300 miles to find the right 6MT, but it was worth it. My brother even bought a 6MT during the 20% off sale.
