    Front diff fluid

I'm servicing all of my drivetrain fluids and I can't seem to find exactly which fluid to use for the front diff after searching. Ecs has two fluids listed and the $72/L bottle says its for auto Trans but I want to be 100% sure. Tia

    Front diff fluid

    GL4+ 75w90?
Looking at the Service Schedule, I only see Rear Sport Differential fluid change.

Thanks for the links brotha! Yea I don't know why they wouldn't have the front diff fluid serviced every 50k miles or at some point.

For DSG there's no front diff fluid. Rather there's gear fluid inside DSG. You don't have to worry this fluid until maybe 100K. I have mine replaced at 41K and mechanic told me the fluid is gold color. I won't be replacing this until another 100K then. Money wasted. My lost your gain:)

Thanks for the info brotha! That front fluid should be made of gold at $72 per liter lol

In the trans there is DSG fluid and gear oil for the center diff. I too inquired in the past about changing the center diff gear oil as i believe no oil can truly be lifetime.

It would be greatly appreciated if "BlownOne" can update this thread as he progresses through the maintenance of the center diff.

I 100% agree and I don't believe any fluid will last a lifetime, especially once you start increasing the power/torque and beating on it.

Seems like very few have really talked about or performed fluid changes on the front or center diffs...ill get with 034, see what I can come up with and update this thread.

Change the diff gear oil (front and rear) every 50K miles. Change the DSG fluid every 30K miles.

The Sport Diff has 2 lubricants : gear-oil (for the diif) and ATF(?) (for torque vectoring clutch system).

I would stick with OEM Audi fluid for all of these.....

For full DSG fluid change you need 7lt of DSG fluid (ATF) G052529A2 and 5lt of gear oil G052513A2. That's what I used for my 2011 S5 3.0T. For MY2012 adn on the catalogue says gear oil G055532A2 should be used, don't know what's the difference.

You would also need a DSG pan gasket / bolts and a filter. There is no ceparate center diff oil in DL501 DSG transmission, the gear oil is also lubricating the center and front diffs.

The rear diff has its own oil system obviously. Sport diff uses G052145S2 gear oil and separate torque vectoring fluid (that's not the same ATF as in DSG, can't recall the part number now, will post later if needed). For the sport diff 1lt of both fluids is enough for the change iirc.

    Front diff fluid

Thanks for the additional input fellas!
I put a call in to 034 for more information on this subject and leman is pretty on target with his statement. The dsg shares the fluid with the front diff so there isn't any additional fluid needed. The center diff on the rear of the trans (above the mount) uses 4.5L of transmission fluid that can be replaced with part number G052513A2. The rear diff obviously has its own gear oil (passenger side) and JHM did a great write up on servicing it.

Bump.. resurrecting this post due to lack of info found for manual transmissions. I have a front axle seal leak on drivers side and will be replacing in the upcoming weeks. Does the front diff share manual transmission fluid like the dash or is it a closed off system?

Yes, the fluid is shared between the front, central diffs and gears.

So if you replace transmission fluid you basically cover all 3 thingies - the front and central diff and the transmission? The trans fluid change takes 3.5 liters of G052911A2 according to this guy:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xIwvkeeQO9Y

This is about 1L less then differential oil change for the DSG, which is strange.

Yeah, 6mt takes less fluid I believe.

Ha! *that* guy is me. And yes, that does cover the front/center diffs as well. It's only the rear that needs a separate fluid flush/fill, and that process is different depending on whether you have the Sport Diff or not.
