as I sit here waiting for my wife, these ideas on what I want to do with my motor keep popping into my head..

what if I were to take a 4.2 block, sleeve it down to say 4.0 liters to make the block a bit stronger ( I don't know if that'll make a difference). put some forged rods and pistons, and put some sequential turbos and boost the hell out of it.. say 18 to 20psi...

how much power do you think this motor is good for? say using k04s, assuming straight 2.5 dps and the Milltek exhaust.

will the auto trans take the abuse?

will the body/frame take the extra torque?

i think that's all the questions I have now..

well you see, there in itself is the problem.. the wallet has a very tight working budget... So I need the best bang for my buck approach, the only thing I do have lots of is time, the length of time, not so much free time though

a little update.. I've pretty much sorted a set of heads and a short block, there's some scoring of the walls on the block, but it doesn't look to bad. the heads will need freshening up of course.

now the big question.... which way to go with the short block...

You will need to build the heads to handle boost. Your issue will most likely be the exhaust valves, as they are not built to handle EGTs on boosted applications, being NA. Your basic head rebuild with exhaust valves would be about $2k at least.

The block is the trickiest because you'll have to find someone willing to work on the Alu-Sil blocks. Sleeving is nothing new, but your wallet is going to need to grow to feed the bottom end. Custom pistons for your 4.0 application and forged rods will easily push you to about $5k on the bottom end alone, all said and done.

    Doing it right isn't cheap

this is all not good news.. I'm starting to lean towards plan C. I was reading up on another board last night about project Judas. for those who don't know, some nut job swapped out a 4.2 in a RS6 and put in a boosted LS1.

now I happen to have a perfectly good SBC motor in my she'd at my parents house just waiting to be put into something.. why not the S4 when the motor goes?

now here's a new set of questions..

the adapter plate I can make or by from kitcarcustoms in ohio.. 500 I think.. so that will mate the motor to the trans.

will the tip trans take the constant abuse or is an 01E a better solution..( I have one with everything to do a swap if needed), but I kinda like the tip trans..

there is shop in jersey, can't remember the name, that will modify the valve body and essentially make the trans bullet proof ( their words, not mine).

how much hp will the rear and center diff take?

the motor I have is 440 - 460hp at the crank. if I put 10 - 12 psi of boost to it, it should put it at around 600hp easily , with plenty of room to grow.

I could probably get all that accomplished for 5 to 6 grand..

now that's starting to sound like a viable project.

here is yet another question.. anyone know how much hp the axels will take before they twist or blow CV joints?
