    B8 3.0T thermostst question

I am curious as to what current or past owners of 2010-2012 S4s have had any issues with thermostats sticking open or closed since I had an issue with mine recently. I am an original owner of a 2010 S4 with replaced engine(15K miles new engine..almost 42K total) 2 years ago due to oil consumption issues in that I went for my yearly inspection to my Audi dealership that I always go to and trust on Saturday Memorial day weekend. The car passed well but advisor warns of engine fans blowing excessively and Temp needle going to H..never happened before but noticed on way to dealership that AC wasn't really getting cold as usual. They found the thermostat stuck open after a diagnostic check and guess what...$964 after 10% discount ....car had to stay all weekend and they gave me a 16' loaded A6 for a loaner.
Original motor had updated thermostat under warranty so I was wondering if anyone had similar experience as i know indy shop would have been cheaper but it was a holiday weekend(Saturday) and I didn't want to damage the engine..=$$$$$$. TIA

Thermostat failure is one of the most common problems with the 3.0 SC engine. I think it is almost inevitable for all of these engines. IF it would stick OPEN, the only problem would be that the water would take a long time to heat up and heater would take a long time to work in the winter. Usually they get stuck closed, which causes the engine to overheat, run hot, and make the fan run all the time.

My 2011 with 54k just had the issue last week.

As I wasn't covered under warranty (or the extended under the Service Action), I called AOA and asked for Goodwill because it's a known and common issue. The request made its way to the dealer and was approved / granted due to 'brand loyalty'. I guess I got lucky.

But yes, its unfortunate just how common the issue is.

just looking for some recent insight..and if you read my opening post I stated that I had the original motor thermostat replaced under warranty like 5 years ago but since had a new motor put in(warranty) due to oil consumption issues a couple of years ago..doesn't mean I still don't love this car and am glad to owned it this long which I think says a lot!
