    Initial start after head rebuild

So I'm getting close to starting the engine for the first time after I installed new intake cam and all new lifters on passenger side. Other than turning the engine over by hand to feel any interference I am wondering if there is anything else that I should do before the initial start.
Just put oil in it and start?

Pour engine oil on the cams, 1 litre should be enough. there must be coolant in the engine also. Prelubing the turbo is good practice too.

Won't the entire engine (and turbo) lube itself when you crank the motor with no spark ?

I put assembly lube on my cam lobes just for extra protection.but everything else should get oil when cranking it.

Remove the spark plugs and ECM fuse. Then turn the engine over for a bit with the starter. Say 10 seconds. I always thought this was a good way to lubricate the engine before firing. I believe he has the 3.0 also.

    Thanks guys, good points.

Where is the ECM fuse, under the hood or in the cab?

And yes I have the 3.0.

Generally, yea. Moly on all contacting surfaces. And prime the turbo with oil. When I rebuilt my turbo i just used engine assembly lube on the internal bits. but it depends on how long its going to sit before startup. Engine oil is generally fine but it won't stick to components like moly will if the parts will sit a while before being installed.

During my rebuild the engine is extremely dry, to ensure everything was getting oil I hooked a pressure gauge and watched and made sure I was making pressure before I started. Also if a new turbo is going in I removed the oil feed to the turbo placed a plastic bag around and cranked until oil came out. I had the return line off the pan as well and made sure oil came out there as well. Maybe overkill but that's what I did.

OP doesn't have a turbo. Also, OP, you should post everything in the same thread and stop making new ones for the same issue and progress towards the resolution as it avoids this type of confusion.

Sorry. Pull fuse #29 (spark) #32 (fuel injectors) and remove spark plugs. Then crank engine. It may be overkill but that is what I do after internal engine work. You may have open circuit codes that need clearing afterwards. Good luck.

    Disregard my post above.

Cranking the starter with the injectors and ign coils deenergized for a couple of 10 second intervals is sufficient to pre lube the engine.

I agree, the injectors should be deenergized/fuse pulled too, to avoid flooding the engine with fuel.
