    K03 vs K04 Turbine Wheel Size

    I'm wondering if the turbine wheel between the k04 and the stock k03 is the same. Reason is, I have a good deal on a CHRA & Housing. What I would do to save costs is swap over the CHRA and compressor housing from the k04 onto the 2.0t stock exhaust manifold.

    The K-03 and K-04 turbines are the same size, the turbine shaft is the same size also. The K-04 has a larger compressor impeller and housing.

    The S3 K04 (the one we want) is a K04-064 IIRC.

    From franken turbo
    The K04-064 has a modern-specification "full back" turbine rotor. What that means is the backplate in the casting carries all the way out to the rotor's widest edges. Dimensionally, it is a 50mm inducer and 44.5mm exducer.

    For more information on BorgWarner's state-of-the art turbo technology, I recommend this technical brief they offer. Turn to pages 13-15 for turbine rotor documentation.
    Kind of conflicting

    I have found Arin@APR said " When I measured the S3 k04 compressor wheel the inducer was 46.32mm and exducer 59.57mm." But I cannot find any information on the turbine. Trying to compare internal specs between a "normal" K04 and the Frankenturbo F23

    Where did you send the K03 in to get it rebuilt?
    Is it more cost effective thank buying a new turbo?

    It depends on few things

    1) Are you cheap and ok with it running few thousand miles and not worry about it too much- get a cheap chinese turbo on amazon
    2)Do you want to keep your car for long time but want to keep the replacement cost low- buy a known brand turbo like Mahle. you can get away with 500$ including tax
    3)if you are willing to spend money- buy genuine Borg warner for 1100$ including tax
    4) If your existing turbo has too many miles over 80-120k its not worth rebuilding and it will get costlier. 300$-400$(1-2 year warranty) if chra and wastegate needs to be replaced.

    Well, Mahle are good turbos, but they are more like $750-$800. Ya can get an OEM BW for around $900 if ya shop around, $1100 with a full install kit.
