    2006 Audi S4 blown 8psi, custom 2.5" catback but...still the stock DP with cats. How bad those stock down pipes hurt the performance ? Will this mod give me a good gain ?

    You've got to do at least piggies or even better 2.5" downpipes, and yes it'll give you nice bump in hp. Stock dps are quite restrictive... Which sc set up are you running?

    from what I've heard , piggies are usually stock downpipes with the pre-cats emptied out (drilled out)

    No. Piggies have the pre cats gutted. The main cats are still there.

    I'd be more concerned with the PES kit and tune than getting a set of 2.5 DP's....

    What's wrong with PES kit and tune? I'm satisfied with it . Consistent high 12 sec 1/4 mile .Run just fine.
