Occasional Clicking Sound in Rear Cabin

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Anyone notice or fix a clicking sound that seems to emanate in or around the driver side rear door or seat area? Its like a plastic on plastic sound. It happens randomly and typically only with dips in the road or moderate medial/lateral maneuvers. Driving me nuts and I cannot localize it.

Will mention it to service at next interval appointment but am hoping to figure it out before. I am also planning to ride in the rear passenger side while a friend drives the car to see if I can determine the source. Thanks in advance.

Sounds kinda like the classic 'B pillar rattle'. I would describe mine more like i high frequency plastic buzz. Some say it's the rear door exterior glossy black trim piece (applique) where it contacts the inside of the door. Others find i emanating from seatbelt area. Google 'Q5 B pillar rattle' and you'll get a bunch of info. I haven't tracked mine down yet, but I think it's the applique.

My rear cargo cover was making a similar noise. Take it out and see if the noise goes away.

    Seconded.

I have had mine out of both my Q's due to this, plus it gives you lots more room.

Check that it is not your seat belt buckle flopping around hitting the plastic moulding. Mine does it on my pass front, its annoying...

Thanks for the info. With your recommendation, I searched through some of threads and although I do not have any rattling so to speak, it is possible the random, single clicking sound is coming from inside the seat belt assembly area inside the pillar. At least it helps me localize "the click" if I can not track it down inside the cabin. I also read that someone found that the seat belt harness under the rear passenger seat was the culprit, so if/when I have a tech ride around with me, I can keep that in mind for them as well.

Easy enough. Will try this and report back. Thanks.

Based on the type of sound and location, this is what I thought it was originally but I ruled it out.

I really appreciate the input. The click is interfering with my enjoyment of the vehicle and IT MUST GO!

If along your adventures in noise finding-outing, you happen to discover how to get rid of the 6-electronic-clicks coming from the MMI/center console, let us know.

So annoying and no idea why Audi did this.

I brought mine in to fix this when it had a whopping, 11km(not thousand) on the odo. I literally had just picked it after it was special ordered. The loaner Q5 TDi they gave me had the exact same noise. They gave it back and said nothing was wrong with it.
