    Wheel bearing slop?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Hi I was working on my car other day when I noticed the wheel has significant slop in it
I just replaced the wheel bearings with brand new ones ( not driving the car )
I need to redo my axle boots and have been lazy. The axles are in the garage.
Dose tighting the wheel to axle eliminate this slop in the bearing?
I was just cerious because it seamed not right.

The new wheel bearings will have some free play until the CV joint shaft nut is tightened. The bearings must not be allowed to support any weight without the CV joint stub shaft nuts being fully torqued, if the weight of the car is applied to the bearings without the CV stub shaft and drive axle installed, and with the axle shaft nut being fully tightened, the bearings will be ruined.

Yes really... The bearings aren't meant to take load without being torqued. You might get lucky and get some life out of them, but they will die prematurely for sure.

not worth the hassle, replace them now. Maybe you could warranty the old ones...

Do they include a hub that was already pressed in? Or was it just the bearing?

It was just the bearing I just checked and I can order a new one and when I send old one back they will refund me the money for the new one. But I'm still trying to find where I ordered the other one from I thought I got both from rock, but I think they only had one left when I ordered and I ordered from two places. Diging though emails....
