A/C musky smell, Other A/C Issues and a 3rd issue

Hey guys, Looking for some help.

My 06 A6 has always had an interesting smell at the start of the Air Conditioner even way back like 6 years ago.
But having just bought it back from someone I sold it to I notice it a little heavier now. I also noticed it today midway through running some errands today with the wife.

Do you guys ever get an interesting A/C Odor from the vents at start or randomly.

    Issue #2.
Today, at idle the Air stopped blowing cold. Granite, it's roughly 100*F here and really high humidity, but at idle after 10min while I was inside the bank and returned the air wasn't cold, but as soon
as I took off it was nice and seriusly ice cold.

In 120,000 miles the A/C never been touched, so im thinking it needs a good charge of the freon that it's having trouble building pressure at idle.
I have a nicer charge hose with a guage on it so I guess I'll give that a shot and see if adding some freon will help it.

3rd Issue unrelated to the air.

The car seems to, not stutter but almost like the throttle plate is twitchy when idle or cruising. I don't notice it when im under throttle. I'm thinking the throttle body might be dirty.
The prev. owner said he replaced part Number 03c 906 051 which comes back as a map sensor.
right after I sold it to him. So im wondering if it's that, but im not getting any codes from the obd2 reader and no CEL or anything (Which works because it lights up on the start up check)

    Thanks

I wonder if these cars have a cabin air

Didn't you have an overheating issue too? That and the lack of cold while stationary might be related. Maybe you have an intermittent fan issue.

Ah I'll check the cabin air filter. Saw that in another thread but wasn't sure it would be that on Re circulation mode.

I did, but it was once right after buying it and I was giving it a hard time and then got stuck in traffic when it was 100*F
I've since driven nearly 800 miles and haven't had an issue, even sitting idle for 30min.
I can hear the electric fan running so I wouldn't imagine that's the problem but I'll inspect the fan more.

Im sure it could benefit from a new water pump and thermostat but Itll have to wait until it cools down outside.
I wonder after 211k miles ( At Minimum 120k miles if the plastic impellers have worn down, broke chipped etc...)

Does your car sit outside a lot and is it rainy where you live? If so, that water can get into the AC intake and cause a musty smell over time.
Try spraying Lysol into the AC intake on the outside of car while the fan is running. Let it draw the lysol mist thru the system which will help kill mold (musty smell) throughout the ductwork and freshen things up a bit. Obviously use unscented...Lol.
A musty smell means water somewhere, period. You could most likely benefit from a cabin air filter change.

Thanks for the info and link. It sure does since I don't have a garage or carport. Its been outside for the span of my ownership.

Today I'm going to look at the air filter behind the glovebox and there should be another under the plastic by the windshield near the firewall I think.
