When I brought a vehicle from states back in 2008 All Canadian tire guy was looking at was that it has a child restrainer hook up (you can buy it from can tire for 15$ and all you gotta do is just have it in the glove box), that sun advisor would have both English and French on it for the safety precautions, that you can see how fast you are going in KM/H and of course day time running lights. Other than that I didn't have any issues, it took a guy like 10 min to do that inspection. However, I had some issues at the border both times. First time they didn't believe me on the price I paid for the car and they kept me at the car strip search for 4 hours, but where unsuccessful to prove anything. I didn't lie on the price, guy sold it pretty cheap at the end and never took his original add down that border patrol found on the internet. They even called the seller and he confirmed the price, but they still would buy it. Anyways )) Second time we brought a car for my buddy that was also written on my name I had some issues with again cause I think I was black listed. That time they didn't want to let us in because car was lowered and it was against Canada transportations. PLEASE NOTE that the first car was lowered as well and they had it at the strip search for 4 hrs and didn't say a word. So we that second time we had to drive back to Calgary, get a set of springs and coil and do a change over at the US side. After that they had an issue that it wasn't done by a certified person.... But gladly my buddy had his Journeyman Mechanic ticket on him and them guys had no choice, but let us through.
Alright, enough with the story =) I think if you have all of the paper work and you are not black listed at the boarder you should be good.
PS: That was in 2008, but I haven't heard that much have changed since then.
