    Oil level sensor

So my '08 4.2 developed an oil leak recently, so I took it to an indy shop that diagnosed the cause as a leaking oil level sensor. They want too much money to replace it, so I was wondering if anyone had replaced it themselves, and how difficult it was.

It should be on the bottom of the oil pan, and really shouldn't be hard to replace. Not sure how DIY you are.

Obviously you'll be removing your oil so a diy oil change will have to be done at the same time.

Here's one I found on google.

This is the oil level sensor.

Rock Auto has the new sensor for $63.

It really should be as simple as draining the oil, Removing the sensor and installing the new sensor and refilling oil/changing oil filter.

If that costs too much, rockauto or anywhere else sells just the O-Ring for the seal of the oil level sensor. It's like $3 and should fix the leak.

Yeah, I figured it would be pretty straightforward. I am going to wait until I need to change the oil, as 10 quarts of Liqui Moly is expensive, and I'm not due for another 5k miles or so. I change my own oil, but use an extractor on that car so I've never seen the oil pan.

Where do you pull it from? The dipstick tube?
That sounds a lot easier than draining from the bolt underneath, the method I normally use because I also just take a peek around as a regular inspection every 10k oil change.

If it's just leaking obviously I'd try the gasket first. The dealer cost should be too bad on just the gasket itself...

I'm almost positive itt takes a torx bit but I don't know what size.

Yes. With the filter on top of the motor, oil changes are clean and easy that way.
