I have to pay $600 for navigation map update?

I don't use the navigation on mmi much but its outdated, my car does have factory warranty and Audi Care but they want to charge me $600 for navigation map update. Now, Ive had BMW and Mercedes before and they all do it for free within warranty period. Am I missing something here?

nope, total scam by Audi.. it's 2016.. gps unit cost 100$ and google map with live traffic is free on your mobile.. Audi is on some drug regarding this issues.

Didn't a lot of people receive the update over the air a few weeks ago?

Pop the sim out of your phone and put it in your car for a few hours. See if it updates automatically.

If not, see if you can find some crafty problem with your current build in MMI and convince them to do a software update for free to "patch" it

his method only works for pre-facelift B8's. I have a '13 and the MMI is a newer edition that can't use his method.

Philip hit me up the other day and wants me to run a script in the mmi on my 14 for him. He didn't say what it was about but I know he's been working on the maps for the facelift models.

If not, see if you can find some crafty problem with your current build in MMI and convince them to do a software update for free to "patch" it

MMI software update is seperate then the maps update. They have been known to give out the MMI update but the maps are the tricky ones to get the dealer to do for free.

What? Since when can MMI update over the air?
If real, I have an activated SIM card constantly in my car but I don't know if my MMI has been updated. Will MMI give you any notification telling you to perform an update? Or does it update quietly without telling you?

I got the MMI update for free last time I took my car in for service (a few months ago), but they did say that I'd have to pay for map updates. i'd rather use my phone.

Google maps was updated last week from google not Audi. I don't think the mmi can be updated over the air. You have to run a script from an sd card to update the mmi.

Google maps in our car is just a pictures overlaid over the old maps loaded into your car. Kind of pointless.

Also, I think the newer models update over the air, but not ours.

This is exactly what I was thinking. Last time I went for service I complained about Bluetooth connectivity so they updated my MMI.
I did notice the image become more detailed on Google Earth maybe this is what he means.

I have a b8.5 which seems to be much more difficult. I found a lot of info on the b8, but ultimately ran out of time to mess with it. Family > cars.

However, I still believe it is a great dis-service to charge people for pirated map upgrades. Especially when most other platforms you can get them for free. I miss the wealth of information available when I had my 335i.

you may get info for free. but the install takes skill and experience. no reason he should not get paid.ALSO NO REASON why Audi should not do for free updates during warranty period.
