About to go Stage 2 but ....smaller AWE pulley/belt or JHM crank pulley?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So I def want to go stage 2 as soon as GIAC has there next sale (anyone know when that might be?) and am wondering if I should go with the smaller AWE Pulley and belt for $495 or get the JHM crank pulley currently on sale for $395. It seems like both will get you to stage 2 levels with appropriate stage 2 software so I'm wondering which one makes more sense to purchase? A smaller pulley or a JHM crank pulley? I'm thinking the JHM crank pulley because it sounds like our OEM one is prone to break. Thanks for your comments in advance.

If you are going a smaller SC pulley just grab the CTS one for $160: http://www.ctsturbo.com/cart/product...-4793-688.html

If cost is not an option I would go with a larger crank as that part is known to fail and it is less noticeable when you go in to Audi for work. (Plus it is easier to swap out

Note: GIAC is pretty picky about what pulleys there tunes go on.

They currently have a Beta Dual Pulley file but, I believe it is only for people with an AWE SC Pulley and GMG Crank Pulley.

You are looking at the wrong crank pulley. JHM has two crank pulleys,$395 one is the same diameter as stock, just lighter. You need to go for $450 one.
If I were you, I would definitely go for crank pulley because replacing the crank pulley is a must, sooner or later. Or, just dual pulley. GIAC stage2+CW.

I'll probably get to stage two after a few more track days. Why is replacing the crank pulley a must? Common point of failure?

It is one of the parts that are more likely to fail in the engine bay, especially after stage 2. The thing is, when the pulley fails it takes other things in the engine bay with it, which could lead to a huge repair cost. There are already several people experienced crank pulley failure over here.

Source? This is great to hear - first I've heard that GIAC is working on a dual-pulley file!

Email them, I will see if I can find the messages where people were talking about it.

Edit: It starts around here somewhere: http://www.audizine.com/forum/showth...1#post11702606

Only downfall is they are confirming that you are running their hardware. AWE SC and GMG Crank I believe is all they support.

Does anyone know how much the GMG crank pulley cost? Also can anyone confirm if the JHM crank pulley will work with a GIAC stage 2 tune. Lastly what's the difference between the JHM pulley and the GMG pulley. I'm guessing size?

Like whiped mentioned above I would absolutely call AWE first before you go buying a CP. They very well may require you to buy their proprietary stage 2 SC pulley in order to get their stage 2 flash tune. I believe their pulleys have registration numbers on them so they can confirm you have stage 2 (the one I had on my car had a 4 digit number). APR and GIAC can be sticklers about these details.

    JHM - 179mm
    GMG - 180mm

Will JHM work with GIAC Stage II - yes
but, you will want to get CW so you can avoid bleeding some boost.

SO 1 mm shouldn't be the end of the world between JHM and GMG. Has anyone just bought a JHM crank pulley and gotten the GIAC stage 2 software recently? Also you(whipped) talked about bleeding boost... if I got a AWE pulley and stage 2 software would it bleed boost like you say the JHM crank pulley will do? Not sure if I want to go the CW route.

Sorry, I was talking about dual pulley setups.

A single pulley with a ratio of around 2.8 shouldn't bleed boosts on Stage II tunes. (See the table in the thread linked above for ratios)

I know of a few people running dual pulley tunes with GIAC. No one running only a JHM crank with their tune.

My advice: Contact them and see what they can do for you.
