Want to lower my 2010 A6. Coil overs vs lower springs & struts - best place to buy??

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I want to lower my 2010 A6. I'm new to the Audi world so I've been doing some searching but it seems like there isn't a lot going on for this particular model car.
What are the benefits/cons of going with coil overs vs lowering springs / struts?
Also, which brands are good and where is the best place to buy them. I have a couple of websites, however, I'm looking for some input from people who have already done this.

I know when I had a different car, when I lowered it with springs, I had to get adjustable struts (koni) to allow the ride quality to be better. Without the adjustable struts, the POGO effect was ridiculious. Has anyone experience POGO with just lowering springs and a good strut?

    Thanks for your time!

ST Coilovers. They give a nice drop and ride quality is very close to stock based on the reviews I have read on here. Some people do H&R Springs and Koni FSD struts I believe. Search around for those two combos.

It really depends on what you want to do. If you want to be able to adjust ride height then coil overs are for you. If you don't see yourself messing with the suspension, the lowering coils are the way to go.
I first installed the H&R sport springs and left the OEM shocks/struts. I did not notice any real degrading of ride quality and for sure did not experience the "pogo" effect.
I have since swapped over to Koni FSD shocks/struts and the ride is great! Nice and plush when cruising and firm when pushing the car through corners and bends. A perfect combination IMHO.
Where to buy??? Depends on the route you go. ECS Tuning is a good place (got my springs from there) and Amazon (where I bought my FSDs).

ECS Tuning sells ST-X coilover as a straight swap, great comfort, and under a grand. Plus there's plenty of write ups on here how to DIY

Like SinCityA6, I went with a H&R/Koni FSD combo. I found the H&Rs for a steal of a deal through internet search and purchased the FSDs from Amazon. You can also purchase direct from Koni through their online site (currently $645).
Koni also sells a kit that pairs their FSD shocks with Eibach springs. I hear that the Eibachs a tad bit less of a drop than the H&Rs. As for coilovers vs spring/shocks...the benefit of coils is that you can set your ride height exactly where you want it.

I'm totally happy with my H&R/FSD setup. Much improved ride quality over the harsh stock suspension which was less than desirable in my opinion.

I mean I love how mine feel, but it's the only ones I've ever used so in biased.
I got mine shipped $809.95 but they're were close enough to the others in price that my decision was also color based as well. I like the yellow a ton.

I'll write my review as soon as I get them installed. I wanted the lower stance, the stock fender gap is ridiculious compared to the BMW 5 series. It doesn't need to be too aggressive in the handling for me, just a little sportier. I plan on doing the sway bars too. It's a 3900lb. luxury sport sedan that I drive my family around in so I don't want it to be "harsh or bouncy". I couldn't pass them up for them price.

The STs are a great daily driver coilover. Very OEM Sport ride. Made in Germany by KW and still come with a 5 year warranty. Shoot me a PM for a price and it is less than $809 ;)
