Post suggestions on replacing halogen bulbs with LED's and eliminating error code

So I need some suggestions on how I can resolve this issue. I currently have the H7 halogen bulbs in my headlights but would like to replace them with LED's. I have bought at least $200 worth of LED's and the car keeps spitting an error code. I spoke to my dad about this and he stated that the LED's uses such a small current that the car thinks there is no bulbs in the headlight. I then eventually found out that I could buy a resistor to eliminate the error code so I bought one off of amazon for $8 with 50 watts at 12v. Now I installed resistor an the error code didn't show any longer. So I thought ok this worked. So I decided to run the car for about 5min to make sure the error did not show up later. So as I am removing the resistor, it was extremely hot to the point it partially melted my fingertip skin. Now this created a major concern for me because of the heat output. So I have returned the resistor because that seemed to be unsafe.

I happened to find this website a5oc.com and someone mentioned a code that would be disabled for rear led error. Similar to the issue im having with the headlights. Is it possible to disable the warning for the headlight out for audi a4 2012 premium when replacing to LED's or is there an led that I can purchase that can fit in the housing and also eliminates the error. Thanks

Please don't do this. If you have halogen bulbs, then you have reflectors in your headlights. You will throw out a lot of light, but it won't be focused and will result in crappy lighting for you and blinding oncoming drivers. Spend your money to put in the proper headlights (with projector lenses designed for HID use). You... and everyone around you will be much happier.

why would you replace your halogens with LEDs? i would understand HID/xenon lights (even though that's still bad being in halogen housings), LEDs will be worse because they aren't going to light up the road and aren't meant for headlights, unless they are like the oem full led headlights, and those are of much higher quality and brightness not just normal LEDs.

LED bulbs would be ok for your fog lights but don't do it for headlights because that's gonna have some bad output. unless you're getting some high powered ones or something. i would just look for bulbs that have the resistor and heatsink built in.

LED will most likely have less light output than halogens. if you are wanting the white bluish light as your reason for upgrading i would just look into some 5000-6000k halogen bulbs, those will look close and at least keep a good light output, no worries about overheating or errors or anything.

I suggest you stop what you are doing and do the correct bi-xenon swap.

don't buy any HID kit and plug it into your existing housing, it's just going to be very bright and blind everyone, will look like high beams. if you want HIDs then go the proper route and you'd have to upgrade to the OEM Xenon/LED housings that has the projector lens, that is what you need for HIDs.

if you just want the HID look then look for the Philips or similar brighter bulbs which have a higher color temp like 5-6000K those will have that bluish white look.

^ This. Do an OE ecode conversion and you won't regret it. You need housings (ECS) bulbs/ballasts/LED controllers (HIDconcept), and a wiring adapter (eBay), plus some VAGCOM coding, to do the swap. It'll run you about $1200 to buy everything new, but it is possible to source parts used. I paid full retail with my last car and didn't regret it for a second, the change was more than worth it.

Edit: link to the parts list in the HID conversion thread:

DIY Halogen to Bixenon- Conversion Complete.

This stuff, plus VCDS coding, is all you need.
