Is anyone running an aftermarket pulley?

I had my heart set on a lightened pulley say from Neuspeed or CTS but after some research I heard its not the best for our cars...... So I looked into a fluidamper pulley and although I have already bought it, I would like some feedback on anyone that has it installed or know of anyone that has.... The benefits from running a fluidamper is its weighted and balanced and is made of metal so it makes the motor smoother as per our OEM is made from rubber. It also adds some HP varies from 5-12HP+ depending on your set up....

I know someone who installed a neuspeed pulley on his S3 before he went stage 2 and he said the mid rage was insane after adding it. What are some of the reasons that it's not good for our cars?

I have the Neuspeed one installed and haven't run into any issues. Hard for me to give you a comparison vs stock as I installed it within the first 2 weeks of ownership. I ran the EuroCode pulley on my stage 2 B8 A4 for about 3 years without issue as well. Definitely had a slightly snappier throttle response and turbo spool. I'll likely swap my Neuspeed pulley for a fluidamper one if I decide to go stage 2 on the S3.

I too was interested in a lighten pulley but I read from many sources that eventually it will do more harm to the motor as it would make it rougher and take the balancing away from it making it prone to failure.. going with a fluidamper adds smoothness and reliability to the motor. It also adds a few extra HP. ..

The concern is that the factory pulley removes damaging engine vibrations because the motor isn't perfectly balanced. I think it's a load of crap and that the light weight pulley won't hurt the motor like other think.

Nope. No odd vibrations on the S3 with the Neuspeed pulley or on my B8 A4 with the Eurocode one. Nothing but good stuff.

Removing a damper is definitely a bad idea. Will cause premature main bearing wear.

So they say. Has any one seen any actual proof? Ran two brand new motors for xx,xxx miles then tore them down and compared the results. I'd like to see someone's motor that failed solely because of a pulley.

Here's some reading on engine harmonics for you:

Thank you for the read, it was pretty informative. What I would like to see is the effects of that extra degree of twist on the actual motor. I mean get the theory behind it, and I do believe that a motor without one won't last as long as a motor with one but how many miles are we actually talking about? Ya know?

That depends on a lot of other factors.

As far as crank twist, that will make things screwy in a hurry. Depending on where the timing ring on the crank is, all sorts of weird stuff will start happening. You'll also cost yourself a not insignificant sum of power if there are cylinders firing 1-2 degrees behind what they should be.
