Back up Camera issues and potential fix, PSA.

My back up camera has always been a bit spotty. It works 90% of the time, but then there are drop outs and such at times.

The dealership replaced the module, some time ago, under warranty. Some of the issues continued, and as I'm not fond of the dealership, I just lived with it.

I finally had a look, and found a few things.

First, the dealership had coded it wrong. It was coded for a vehicle with a trailer hitch, and wrong car. I recoded, and will talk to them about that. I really should have checked that some time ago, as I know this one group has dropped the ball in the past.

The other issue, was the grey connector, that comes off the camera, was hanging. Looking at what is in the area, there is actually a black clip, that this connector is supposed to clip into. There is a round side, and square side, so it is easy to clip back into place. My guess is the clip helps ensure the output video is constant by keeping the two haves of the connector snug. I used some tape to ensure it would not come off again. It is fairly easy to remove the rear trim, though a second pair of hands helped me re-assemble the inside latch mechanism.

So far, I've been getting 100%, so hopefully this has now sorted everything.

Have had spotty problems as well. Is the connector you mention back in the right trunk cubby?

im having issues as well. It pauses on me at times. First time i went in, they replaced the parking brake module and 2nd time they did a software update *yesterday. As i was in reverse today, the camera paused on me again for a quick 1-2 secs. They cant find out why or how it is causing the issue. All they asked was to record it which i will try to do but hard cause i dont have a camera mount. Brining the car back in a couple of days.

How did you check if it was coded correctly?

Mine used to be like that, dealership swapped out the harness or the wire for the camera, works 10/10.

My camera has been spotty since the car was new. It hardly ever works now - is a surprise when I see it come on. And when it does come on, it usually does this

First time it paused on me I almost backed into a wall. It was frozen for a good few seconds. Freaked me out - almost never rely on it when getting close to things now.

I have a 2011 Q7 we've had a problem with the backup camera turning on for like 5-10 secs then turning itself off while still backing up. I just my vag-com cable to see if the vehicle is coded correctly. I'll also check the wiring coming and going to the camera itself
