I had my transmission rebuilt by Scotty back in January of 2012. In October of 2015 I took the car to the strip for the first time ever. In all, I probably launched the car, always using launch control, at most a dozen times. This time I got a rebuilt transmission from JHM. Upon tearing my transmission down they found multiple things wrong and ended up needing to replace the main shaft which also tore up first gear. I for one wouldn't trust Scotty to even touch my transmission again. When I mentioned my issues to him, he told me to send it back to him so he could diagnose and fix the issue. Yeah so he can charge me even more money to do another terrible job.

I've been driving Audis with manual transmissions for 15 years and this is the first time I've had an issue. When I had my stage 4 clutch sac adjust all the way, I had a friend of a friend take the car to fix the clutch. He ended up driving the car a bunch by jamming it into gear resulting in the gears getting destroyed and having to get rebuilt the first time. This second time was from me driving it, but I've never heard of an issue with the main shaft being messed up. Installer error? You decide. From now on I'll leave it to a competent shop to fix.

Scott is a stand up guy. Do you think drag strip abuse for the past 4 years since your rebuild could have been a contributing factor to your issue?

OP, you probably should get a slap on the wrist from the moderators and your thread deleted for this post. I'm all for venting online and calling out shops for not taking care of customers. And I have no idea if this Scotty guy generally does good or bad work. But seriously, 4 AND A HALF YEARS later and by your own admission you took it to the drag strip and you think the original shop has ANY reasonable liability at this point? And then to top it off, you didn't even let them look at it???

The B6 S4 I own right now got a new transmission at 11,000 miles, replaced under factory warranty. So stuff happens...

In the last 4.5 years the car sat at JHM for 2 years and this also happened 9 months ago. So I drove it for about 15 months. I took the car to the drag strip 1 time and in all launched the car, with launch control, just over 10 times. So no, I don't think the transmission was abused at all. Show me anybody that has had to replace the main shaft in the transmission. I've never seen it happen, but maybe there are people. If so please show me.

So you would ship your transmission back across the country to a dishonest person to pay more money to have them look at it? You're way more trusting than me. Have you not seen the threads where Scotty makes crazy claims, says he'll provide proof with pictures, and then disappears for weeks or months only to take back his statement or just not admit he was wrong? I'd do a little more research if I were you.

Nothing that I've seen here leads me to believe that the original shop is dishonest. Looks like they charged you for a rebuild that they performed in 2012 and then when you complained (over four years later) about issues, they offered to take another look to try and diagnose the issue(s). What else would you have expected from them in that situation? They obviously aren't going to provide a refund for work performed in 2012 without first seeing the transmission. That's beyond unreasonable. Of course, it's possible that they made a mistake in the rebuild and it's also possible that something outside of their control (like driver error, defective parts, etc.) contributed to the failure, but it seems to me that they were responsive and offered to assist in diagnosis.

I'm not familiar with the shop and it's completely possible that you've been wronged, but nothing in your post jumps out as poor business practices to me. Sometimes shit just happens. Sorry to hear about your trans.

    Mods should delete this one.

I have to put in another 2 cents..
I have done business and have driven cars to Scotty to work on.
I have never felt that he is anything more than a guy doing quality work and trying to contribute to the Audi community.
He offered you to a way to try to make it right, but you instead jump on here trying to flame him?
He is an honorable man as far as I am concerned. He may be crazy busy at times (he has a LOT going on at once) but he does good work and is honest.

I really don't see what else you could reasonably expect from a shop in this situation?

I think you guys are missing the point of this thread. Have you ever heard the saying fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me? I've read plenty of threads where he's proved himself to be dishonest and other people with terrible experiences. I don't expect anything from Scotty. I'm sharing my experience with the community and letting you guys judge for yourself if you want to use him as a resource to get your transmission rebuilt, that is all. If you think I'm in the wrong then please, by all means, send your transmission to Scotty, stick up for him, and call me whatever you want. I'm not arguing that 4.5 years after the rebuild is a long time. But when you consider I only put 16k miles on the car since then, it sounds fishy that something that never happens to anybody happened to me. I'll do you guys a favor and stop trying to help this community.

16k miles on a transmission in a car you doubled the horsepower on (9 second capable according to you). Combine that with a noob driver launching it 10 times in a row at a track. But hey, lets blame Scotty for his 4 year old rebuild.

Did you check your injectors? They may be clogged and caused the input shaft to fail?

I used Scotty and he was more than accommodating and informative. It sounds like the only thing you have an issue with is that he sends rebuilds to JHM. What do you mean they found multiple things wrong?

There is too much vagueness here to point the finger at anyone. And for that Sir I award you no points, and may god have mercy on your soul.

Of course jack hammer motorfail found "numerous" issues, they hate Scotty because he does a better job than them. Post is as useless as an ashtray on a motorcycle without any real pics/proof... OP you are beating your car at the drag strip, STFU and learn that you have to pay to play...
