    headlight lens opening

I've been mulling over the idea of painting the inside of my headlight housings from chrome and changing to black. Scared of getting condensation in the lights once they are back on. Also never taken apart B8 lights and all the components attached.

I assume it will be more of a challenge than my MK4 GLI but desperate to lose the chrome up front.

    Any thoughts?

I purchased a used, broken headlight assembly to open one up..... I have done several Retrofits on other vehicles... these things are permasealed which makes it much more difficult to separate the lenses.

As above these are tricky to do but they are possible to split.

There is an SQ5 in Germany that has done what you want to do.

If you're going to try, I'd go the same route as tcm glx did and find a used set ideally off a salvage or something.

For what it's worth, the guys at ONEighty said they wouldn't do it after looking at mine, and they do all kinds of headlight customizations. It looks like a PITA to do based on what I've seen online. Here's an example: Audi A4 DIY Black Out Headlight Housings - AKA Joey Mod.

Anything is possible, but these may some of the hardest ones to attempt out there. Someone on one of the forums played around with an extra one and posted the pics of the process. After seeing his results, I definitely wouldn't do it on my new or only set (actually, I wouldn't try it at all, and I consider myself very competent with this stuff). Like ricenboy22 said, pick up some cheaper, used ones if you're going to attempt. They would look SO MUCH better blacked out a bit though, especially ecodes with all that clear/chrome.
