E85 ok to use with APR Stage 1 91tune?

So I found a gas station that offers e85 but i hesitated when i was at the pump. Will this have an effect down the line like check engine /codes and is this compatible with my current tune. Thanks.

You should be able to run 5 gallons of E85 without throwing a lean code (fill up the rest of the tank with 91). Those who have gotten lean codes have generally been near ~ 40% E85; 6+ gallons.

You'll make more power than straight 91, but will make more if you can load the 93 or 100 file- logging is advised on the race gas file to make sure your timing looks good.

16 Gallon tank so roughly 3 to 1 or 2 to 1 ratio sounds like

I'm on the 91 tune currently (we don't have 93 here) and have been putting in 4 gallons of E85 over the past several fill-ups with nothing but positive results. I was also surprised to find MPG hasn't changed in my mixed city/highway heavy footed driving either. Car hasn't exploded yet so I'm looking to get the 93 tune and stick with 4-5 gallons mixed from here on out...

I reached out to APR to get their take and of course they can't/won't say anything about it but I did confirm there is no added cost to go from a 91 to 93 tune, from APR at least.

interesting timing. I called GIAC about this today
i can't imagine the tunes are drastically different and their recommendation is on par with the general consensus here. i'd be interested in hearing more people's experiences though

Oh man, what a misleading title! I totally thought APR released E85 files for a second there...

I only have 91 octane here and usually mix 5 gallons of e85 but recently I threw a lean code for the first time with using only 5 gallons (threw codes before mixing more). I think the summer blend has a higher ethenol content than when I started mixing in the winter. So now I put 4 gallons and havent had any issues.

I'm not aware that e85 blend will make any more power than 91oct that is quality fuel on a 91oct file. If the timing is maxed out, no significant improvement would be had, i would imagine. It's true, ethanol will possible have a bit of a cooling affect, but I wouldn't imagine that it would be hugely significant. Anyone have a different opinion, and if so, explain???

And yes, I did run a blend myself, but that was because I may have been pushing the limit of the file design and wanted to play it safe with knock prevention through higher octane, not because I was expecting more power out of a tune running the hardware it was designed for.

I agree. E85 allows you to run more timing and more boost before knock threshold is reached and has a nice cooling effect. It doesn't make power by itself only when you tune to take advantage of it. In my turbo cars I can run sometimes an additional 10psi before I get any knock. Summer blend is closer to true E85, winter blend is more like E70. I learned this the hard way when I torched a head on my Eagle Talon running 40psi on a 65lbs/min turbo safely on the summer blend. September came along with the winter blend and BOOM! Lol. Winter blend I have to reduce timing to 15dg flat at peak torque.
