Looking for some help. My alternator went bad. I replaced it with new on ebay. Car seems fine. Voltage at battery off is 12.7 and on is 14.2. Under loade 14.1. Issue is the generator light has come on and stayed on with new alternator. Any ideas?

For starters check the blue wire on the alternator plug. Is it broken or pinched? I believe that is the signal wire for your display.

Red battery light means the battery is not being charged. It could be your battery has bad cells, or an intermittent open connection from batt to alt to starter. Perhaps your new alternater isnt putting out enough juice. Take the alt off along with the batt to an autozone and let them bench test it. Also check your wirings for visible signs of wear, frayed/crack insulations and so forth.

The alternator has a clutch type pulley...which are known for going bad...

    2015 S3 with 210,000 miles with new 2019 Q5 motor. Still going!
