Immobilized after Ignition Lock Replacement

First post here not counting the introduction:
I have a 2001 A4 B5 that I have been wrenching on for the past three years. The ignition lock broke ( the thin blade that turns the ignition switch) so I pulled the airbag, steering wheel, steering column covers, lower kick cover, wiper /light control arms and lock mechanism. Swapped out the key and induction ring to the new lock assembly and put it back together. EXCEPT: I cannot find the wires and connector that go to the lock induction coil. I think i remember pulling it out of the old one but now it is just not there. Thinking that I might have never been there I put it all back together without the induction ring hooked up and the can started ran for about 3 seconds and then died. It will crank now but not start, ie it is now immobilized.

I have spent hours searching the web for similar threads, have been to my local audi dealership looking for the location of the wire . It seems to be in the harness going to the wiper controls. When I stripped the outer covering from the wiring harness I cannot find any broken off or pulled back wires.

So I am in need of some help.
1) Can anyone confirm that the immobilizer /induction ring ( the black plastic end on the ignition lock) is connected to the car's wiring harness and if so where does the wire come form in the harness. Pictures would be great.
2) Do I need to have the car reprogrammed at the dealership (The battery was disconnected during this repair and it took about 2 weeks for all the parts to show up.)

North American cars do not have immobilizers although some do have many of the parts for it. If it did have a working immobilizer you would get a warning light on the dash that would flash and I believe it will start every time and then die soon after within a few seconds.

Thanks for the quick response. Dealership said imobilizer would crank but not start. Parts diagram based on my vin number shows a wire to the induction ring. Still waiting to talk with an audi tech old enough to remember the b5
I don't want to take this in to the dealership unfilled I am sure I have put it back together correctly..
Is this just a reprogram because the battery was disconnected???

Umm i dont know exactly what you did but on the automatics, its just a matter of sliding out the damaged lock cylinder, putting the new or used one back in its place and thats it. The manual cars will have an extra cable for the clutch

Did this on my 2000 2.8 b5 when i bought her, got a used lock cylinder with key from junkyard, replacement was pretty straight forward

Manuals of this year have two clutch switches, one for up and one for down. The manual cars use the clutch switch to ensure the car will not start unless it is pressed to the floor so no cable needed. In any case North American B5's do not use an immobilizer unless someone has added everything so the system worked an changed the coding on the ECM.

Again thanks for replying. The car is an automatic. If it was the neutral safety switch it would not crank over. In my case it will crank just not start. It has fuel pressure and no stored or pending engine codes. Coilpacks are all new as are the sparkplugs. Nothing has changes except the replacement of the ignition lock. I keep coming back to not having hooked up the induction coil on the lock as the reason it will not start. But.. I cannot find the wire and connector to indicate it was ever hooked up in the first place.
The key and lock cylinder are original to the car. I swapped them into the lock assembly when I installed it. The ignition switch is new and came with the new lock assembly.

if the car truly had an immo there would be a code when you scan it saying engine start blocked by immo, what brand switch did you get? cheap aftermarket ignition switches are junk.

The ignition lock is from Volkswagen gruppe. Part number 4B0-905-851-B. Got it from the same audi dealer that has been trying to help me.
Looks like I really need to put this back together and find a scan that tool.

Assuming it is the coil then it should not be hard to find out where it plugs into. The wiring harness is only so long so see if there are bends on the harness which may give you an idea of how it was routed and the look for a plug around the length of the harness going to the coil.

Problem Solved!!!
Back to the basics Put it all back together , no wire to the induction coil , Still no start. Check fuel pressure ..ok, check injectors with noids... lights up like a christmas tree, Pull coil pack and check spark ... lots of spark. .. Crankshaft position sensor.. Scanner shows 150 rpm at crank ... ???
So it should run if it has spark fuel and timing..try again and it starts.
I think it took some time for the throttle to relearn it's happy place.

If anyone has this problem ,,, Crank engine over for about 2 minutes, 30 seconds at a time to prevent overheating the starter. It might work..
