Who is running a mechanical vacuum/boost gauge and where did you tap into vacuum?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I bought one and would love to install it this weekend. I have a couple spots (ports) in mind coming off the intake manifold, but I'd love to see what others have done first.

Pics would be greatly appreciated as well.

And any issues at all besides figuring out where to run the line and how to mount the gauge? Or voltage for the light in the gauge?

I can figure that part out as well....but suggestions from those that have done this are welcome as well.

    I'm ready to go!

I put mine at a "t" where it goes to the fuel pressure regulator.

You can see it in the back right hand side of this pic.

Cool. Looks better than what I had in mind. I'm teeing that right now. Thanks!

Where did you route into the cabin? Here's where I'm at now....will go under the cover....then gotta figure out exactly where to go into the cabin. I've got 12 feet of line....so I'm open to suggestions since you've "been there done that".

You can drill a hole in the ecu box, or if the line's small enough you can make a hole in the big rubber grommet where the engine harness goes through the secondary firewall and snake it through there.

Thanks, but I got it. No new hole necessary. I'll post pics when I'm done.

Pics suck....but here's the install. Mount of the gauge is temporary, gonna look for a pillar mount or something. Also still gotta hook up the light. But it works!

I used the hard plastic line all the way...just joined it to the soft vacuum line at the T off the fuel pressure regulator as suggested. Then goes up thru the hood firewall here.

Here's the routing...tucked it under cowl cover and thru fenderwell into cabin. There is a hole there....no drilling necessary. Needed my son to help with this part to shine a light and snake it thru while I was on the other side of the door finding it and then pulling it thru.

Here it is as I put the cowl cover back in place. Only a small piece of the line is exposed, and I'll wrap that with black tape to hid it even better.

Coming in thru the door jam into the cabin. Damn....dash and vents looked clean to my....the flash sure exposed the dirt. Got some cleaning/detailing to do now...

Made a very small hole in the door jam weatherstripping and snaked it in thru there, tucked it in under a seam....comes out here to the gauge.

Back under the hood for a finishing touch. I put the hard line thru a small section of 5/32 soft vacuum hose to hide it better....just looks like one of the hundreds of feet of other vacuum lines now. Put that last zip tie on it, then the T tucks right under the PCV and outta sight.

Here it is in action. Like I mentioned, a temporary mount. I'll get a permanent mount and hook up the light as soon as I can.

Here's the gauge housing I just received from Amazon, only $10. I ordered a pillar mount to, that comes tomorrow. Supposedly universal, instructions say to hear with a hair dryer to mold to shape to fit the pillar. It got mixed reviews, we shall see. If it works great, I prefer a pillar mount. If not, I'll keep this, if does the job.

Pillar mount came today. It's fit is nearly perfect and I highly recommend. As you can see, there is a small gap, but I haven't even got out the hair dryer yet to mold it to exact fit. Right now it is only mounted by sliding a corner down between the a-pillar and the dash, and then double stick tape at the top on the a-pillar (the side running along the windshield). That is holding just fine for now. I will mold it and most likely paint it gray to match the pillar as my next step. But for now....I like...and couldn't be happier with my little setup courtesy of Amazon.com.

Here's the Bosch gauge, only $17.87.

Here's the pillar mount, only $9.99

And for anyone who prefers the dash mount I had in the last post, here's that for only $8.99

So yeah, if anyone wants a boost gauge, you too can have one, with mount.....for less than $30.

Wired in the light this afternoon. Took a red Sharpe marker to the bulb....perfectly matches the dash gauges.

Looks good. May have to add another project to my list.
