APU engine - differences to AEB, ATW

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Can someone elaborate?
I am familiar with AEB and ATW, but need to remotely help my brother with his 2000 A4 Quattro 1.T 5 spd with APU engine and 4B0 906 018 AA ECU. Building autocross car.

What is similar to AEB (20mm rods, writst pin, high flow cylinder head, high flow intake, no valve cover vent, using the old style square coils and ICM, etc) ?
What is similar to ATW (electronic throttle drive by wire (not like AEB drive by cable), modern ECU (flashable)?

    Other differences to AEB, ATW?
    Other commonalities with AEB, ATW?

The bottom end of the AEB and ATW are the same but the head and engine management are different. The ATW uses ME7.1 which is very similar to ME7.5 but it comes down to narrow-band O2 on the ATW compared to wide-band O2 on the 2001 and later AWM motors which use ME7.5. ME7.1 is flash-able and there is a lot of information about tuning it on the S4 Wiki and Nefmoto. The ATW motor was the first year Audi used DBW on the 1.8T but did not use VVT until later so it is the same small port head and is configured to use a SAI.

Does APU have VVT (variable valve timing) with electrical connector on the cam chain tensioner (like ATW) or not (like AEB)?

No. different bottom end, cylinder, etc. ATW is VERY different from AEB. Aside from drive by wire (ECU).
ATW is small 19mm rods/wrist pin. AEB is 20mm. Therefore also different pistons.
    APU actually may be 20mm.

Don't know about the pistons but when I did the rods on my ATW they were 20mm, the AWM uses the 19mm rods with an internal coolant pump. Both the ATW and AEB use a 058 block and if there are any differences they are minor. The big differences were on the head and the engine management system.
