Is the RS7 owner on this board? Not the outcome in this race that I would have expected.

    Freaking awesome video!

    BUT...

It sounded to me that the rs7 was shifting manually. Clearly he was losing ground since he was riding the Rev limiter in a few occasions.

The tesla, ludicrously overated in my opinion.

The 911, the love of my life! I will get back in a 911 at some point.

I got the P90D as well... what is not over rated is how you have all that power literally any time you want without down shifting or being in the sweet spot of the RPM range or being 'in the boost'. Any time you press the pedal on the P90D you always have 100% of the power. Unless you drive one you won't know how that feels... I honestly do not even drive the car in Sport mode any more because it makes me dizzy and motion sick. It is so fast all the time that it starts to hurt... no BS.

Wow great video. The differences in the last two races were really odd though. Maybe it was the manual shifting. Now I want to upgrade to an RS...

I can't imagine choosing to shift the RS7 manually in a straight line race

As other threads point out AMAX is worth .3 sec in the qtr. This compared to auto but not Amax. This compared to manual?

I'll admit I'm not very good at timing full throttle shifts. You've got to click the paddle at around 4000 rpm in first gear to not bounce off the limiter.

Painful to watch how much RS7 squats, so much power gets wasted, I don't know what was Audi thinking, giving S7 and RS7 the same boati, soft air suspension setup that's on the A7.

The ability of the car squatting so much is an advantage when drag racing. This is why such heavy car launches so hard.

Not sure if I'm right but looked like Georgia plates... 2014 model and that same car is in my neighborhood. Never been out to Awesome Bill('s Elliot) from Dawsonville but it seems to fit the description of his private runway and I know they're always running up there.
None of my post is helpful or really relevant. Ha

Yes I know, but still why give V8 sport cars the same suspension setup that's on the A7 two litre engine?

You must remember that these are first and foremost luxury street cars. Then they are optimized for performance while staying true to their intended purpose, and level of performance tune be it A, S, or RS. FWIW, the air suspension on a Panamera doesn't do this, so it isn't the air, but rather how the whole thing is set up. The air suspension on my previous Porsche Cayenne GTS didn't do this either, despite the fact that it was a larger and slightly heavier vehicle.

Audi for the most part, doesn't do the best job with suspensions IMO. That being said, I haven't had much seat time in the R8, so I can't comment on that particular car, but compared to my BMW M3 and the 3 Porsche vehicles I have owned, all of them have done a better job in terms of the ride/handling balance.

My understanding is best drag times are achieved in comfort setting, maximizing weight on rears. If you leave suspension in dynamic setting there is much less squatting, but launch isn't as hard.

I would argue that comfort versus dynamic which is quicker may depend on the surface. My car 60' in dynamic mode was 1.59 with why seemed to be no break in traction.

The fastest cars from a stop are ones that don't squat and have traction. Cars that squat are wasting energy.

I see you have the headbang emoji on your signature next to your GTR sold. Do you miss the car? I really have been having them on my mind lately and curious to pros/cons.

Sorry for threadjack. Tesla can be fast all it wants but how long do the batteries last doing their ludicrous and insane launches?

I am genuinely amazed at what Audi has managed to do with the RS7. Despite the sure financial ruin it would bring to me, I would figure out a way to buy a RS6 Avant if they ever bring it to the U.S. Hell, I may have to shift my next car focus to a used RS7 down the road. Amazing.
