    Best new Standalone ECU?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I recently had a conversation with 034 where they told me they are discontinuing their support for their 034efi system. They also no longer provide custom tuning for our platform, only off the shelf tunes.
A lot has changed in the standalone market since 034 EFI and this platform was first introduced. So what is the best option for someone who can't stand Me7 due to its complexity and unreliability (atleast in my case).
I know there are not any plug and play options (maybe im wrong) but what sort of custom wiring systems would work properly on our cars?

I will be running link standalone ecu. Link used to be vipec. They have can bus , so abs and gauges will still work. This will be done with full custom engine harness and flex fuel . I hope car will be ready in few month.

Honestly if I were going standalone I would just throw Megasquirt in, and build a new harness.

Simple, and effective. Plus if you are into it, you can build the thing yourself. I did one before and really enjoyed it. Although the premade ones are very well built.

    I didn't think the B5 S4 was a can bus setup?

Earlier EU versions weren't, but north American market was facelift model with can bus.

So with a Megasquirt, will all the OEM sensors, vvt, and coolant temp sensors and all that fun stuff work or does it need to be changed?

Look into ProEFI and since you are in Tahoe why don't you reach out to Jared at VLM Spec and bounce ideas off of him. He has good amount of knowledge on standalone along with our factory ECU.

I understand the capabilities of ME7, there is just so much Audi electrical crap that interferes with the my mechanically proper car on almost a weekly basis and the lack of tuners is kind of lame

I really don't see the need for standalone on our cars due the addition of Antilag and no lift shit to our ecus and the fact that you have full control over everything you would want to adjust but you have to know how to tune me7 so I can see the appeal of a Standalone system in that regard but once you learn what maps do what the car can perform just as good if not better than with a standalone system. That's probably why 034 is no longer supporting their setup.

Vems is solid. Super easy software and its plug and play.

AEM infinity 8 is what I'll be doing on my car this fall, Cody Gulstrand has already mapped the pinout and can make an adapter for the stock engine harness. it's plug and play less tuning, Pm me if you want to know more.

Contact srsmotorsport.com, he is my friend and he can set you up with a plug and play VEMS setup, with E-throttle,
he will most probably beat anyone's price.
He can also make you a brand new wiring harness or an adapter for your OEM wiring harness. I'd go with a new
harness though due to the age of them.

Anyone successfully run standalone with the factory cluster? I know there are certain advantages to something like a racepak, but I am a huge fan of keeping the stock gauges on a street car.

Keep the stock ECU then. Run both.

In theory standalone that has can support for 1.8t vw/Audi should work with stock gauges and abs in our cars . So far I know AEM infinity , halltec and link vipec should work. I'm getting link g4 thunder installed with custom harness. I'm sure there is others that I don't know of that would also work.

There is really no reason to use stanalone on 2.7t bc oem Me7.1 is capable of just about Everything. Find a good tuner and keep it simple.

That's the thing though...I hear that it is theoretically possible but have yet to see an example of it being done. Same goes for running the stock gauges with the stock ECU and controlling the engine via standalone.

Looking forward to seeing your setup.

I think what i find the most appealing is the ability to have a ethanol content analyser that changes the map on the fly.

There is a b6 a4 in Australia I believe , he is running a vipec that was intended for first get Audi TT. Plug in version . he had to modify a few things like a e thermostat and some other things but it works like a charm. Worst case I will recode everything to 1.8t and that should work. After all when people do swaps like 1.8 to 2.7 they have to recode to make electronic understand each other. So I will recode in reverse like swaping 2.7 for 1.8 t. Essentially tricking ecu in thinking my car is a4

Me7 is pretty sweet , reason I went standalone is

Flex fuel even thou I know there are tuners working on me7 flex fuel set up.

My harness was in very poor shape , so I'm getting a custom harness .

I wanted to delete all the emissions sensors with out wiring in resistors .

Ability to run with no maf .

Also you can use wideband lambdas with the standalone, and 4 bar map wihtout hassle and scaling.

Just being able to use wideband sensors for fueling is huge. E85 flex fuel would be super nice.

Is there anybody running a MS3 on an S4?

We have been fooling around with one on another track car (ACR SRT-4) and it has been great. We have been using it to dick around with some things. Put a Maf in and a cross over table to go maf-less past 2k (makes the car easier to live with off track at idle, and 1st, 2nd and reverse). Real flex fuel. Really unlimited amount of sensors can be added and logged or used. Meth injection control, fail-safes, meth content etc. Even looking at it to do some active aero bits. I know that it is mostly DIY but the documentation is really detailed(big city phone book when printed out).

I've never seen it, but it's certainly possible. You can run just about anything with MS3 providing you have the knowledge to set up all the requisite triggers, sensors, outputs. It's a very powerful ECU.

Im leaning more towards the ms3, and the AEM infinity 8 comes in a close second. Does anyone have any first hand experience when it comes to tuning these different ecus and the useability of the companies software and customer support ect?

Flex fuel is not ability to run e85. Flex fuel is on the fly switch between pump and e85 and all mixture in between .
