    Hello,

Ive been doing as much research as humanly possible for a B7 6mt Avant. I was just wondering if anyone has any horror stories and happy stories on when they purchased their Avant. Also if anyone has experience with a B6 Avant and B7 Avant, Id love to know which one you prefer and why.

    Thank you!

Read through the Forum, you'll easily find both happy and pissed off stories. Sometime both at the same time.

    (1) Is this your 1st Audi ?
    (2) If so then through that detailed research you should have answered your own question....

    (3) Unhappy Audi owners come in Two modes ... (A) Those who thought that buying a - $7,000 german car meant a bargain (B) Those that didn't understand that an 11 year old Audi is still a german car that demands attention to servicing and timely repairs...

That being said I bought my B6 1.8T Avant CPO @ 51,000 miles and reached 208,000 miles before it was sold still running well and no issues. Biggest annoyance is the fact that the coolant T connection behind the 1.8T motor crystallizes from heat, cracks and is a pain to reach and replace. At the age of a B6 / B7 you are going to have to address all of the plumbing connections for wear and tear, need to look at all your upper and lower control arms bushings, shocks / springs. Brake lines, really just everything that is prone to exposure from being on the road for 10 - 14 years..... #1 Get a full documented servicing and repair history.

    I have a B7 6mt avant.
I think they look better than B6.

Like any car, take care of it and invest in preventative maintenance and it will be good stuff

This!! watch for the Cam Follower (I learned that one the hard way and I knew about it before hand but just took too long to check it) and then the timing belt issue but other then that, my b7 (bought at 114k and now have 176K and climbing on it) has been the best daily I could have asked for with how much I drive for work. In a perfect world I'll just need to replace the clutch and refresh the suspension and I don't have a 2nd thought in my mind that I could keep her for another 100K (I did the timing belt/waterpump, etc when I had my top end rebuilt so that's taken care of)

Essentially any high mileage Audi is going to require constant upkeep on the little things though and that can get slightly annoying. I just replaced the whole wiper assembly on mine and need to do the driver side window regulator again, but tech wise my avant has everything I want in a car and nothing I don't. In the winter the 2ton AWD sled will get me anywhere I want to go and in the summer it's a blast to carve up and down the canyons around my house.

For me my biggest issue with the car and why I'm considering selling it is I need ground clearance again in my life and my sport suspension avant just doesn't get back into the woods like I would like it too. Other then that I would keep this car until the motor blew up and then drop something stupid like a V8 in there or a V10 and have some fun. Love how the b7 looks compared to most modern cars, it's classic Audi where at 10yrs old it still looks new.

SO all in all I would suggest a B7 6MT avant if you are willing to keep up with the maintenance on it and don't mind either turning your own wrenches or have some deep pockets for labor.
