    Standard Wheel-Crank Power Estimations

Hi i couldn't find any thing on this online to our motor but it seems different dynes, different tuners allow for different drive train losses.

One dyno i had done only accounted for 14% and others 16+

    APR is around 19% right?
    GIAC?
    MRC?
    Unitronic?
    REVO?

Probably the most boring post ever sorry

I just wanted to know what the general thought of DT losses were for our AWD cars? 18%?

EPL looks like ~14% based on the graph in their tune thread. 420 crank per Audi down to 360 wheel hp on a Mustang.

But we all know Audi underrated the power. So it could be considerably more loss if the number is more like 480hp. 14% is really low considering the four wheel drive.

agreed. would be nice to have real/reliable crank hp numbers but i put my focus at the wheels regardless. even APR's stock numbers at 480 crank to 400 wheels is only 16.67% though

But how do any of these guys give a crank number? Isn't it derived from the wheels? What if the the drive train loss was 20%, then the 400whp APR would have been 500hp crank....

EPL's dyno run came in just about 360whp if you take the generally accepted conversion of 0.85 for bhp you get 423 at the crank which is what Audi claims (if you round it down). So if EPL added an extra 100whp that would be 541 at the crank. All sounds just about right to me but what do I know?

    Cheers

Wow more replies than I expected thanks.

But Audi quotes 443bhp/450ps which works out at 17% drive train loss. That's presuming they aren't under quoting too. So whether we take crank figures or not it's gotta be more than 14-15% surely?

I was talking about the pre 16? models before Audi up'd the Hp to 450 it was previously 420

Oh right sorry didn't realise. Mine is a 2016 and on a dynapack hub dyno at Revo HQ it came in at that. On another dyno it was only 2hp out stock. I don't think they really uprated the power it sounds like they were always this unless anyone know otherwise they just updated their brochure with a "power boost"

Would a cat back add much to the max gain?

The most accurate way to measure crank HP is to use an engine Dyno. But I suppose given an accurate parasitic loss a crank number could be derived from WHP.
