Hard Start hot (after short stop)

I tried search but didn't find anything useful, but that could just be me.

Daughter mentioned today that every time she stops for fuel or to pick up a convenience store item, her A4 won't start the first time. Takes a few tries. If it sets for like 15 or more minutes, it starts fine.

Is this a common thing that I just can't find?

    Where do I start?

The 2008 2.0T has a little over 100,000 miles with a recent timing belt change. She probably has a thermostat or sensor problem as she often gets that check engine light for low coolant temp thing.

    Thanks

If it won't start after refueling then you should replace the n80 valve. If you're having cooling problems you should replace thermostat and sensor

Take my comment witha grain of salt because I am rather unfamiliar with the B7 audis but I know the 06 and 07's had a problem with an inferior fuel pump module. Its under the back seat by/on the low pressure fuel pump lid. When they got hot they didnt work. Probably not your issue but I wanted to mention it. There may even be a recall or tsb about it.

If you have vcds I think it usually throws a code 3089 iirc.

Could also be a fuel pump relay. If you don't hear a humming noise when the door is opened or the key is turned to on, but not turned all the way to start, then the fuel pump isn't priming.

Edit: Reading into this a little more could also be the low pressure fuel pump located in the gas tank.

My car would do this on occasion and it ended up being the cam position sensor..... Changed it and all is well again.. no issues. Never threw a CEL either.

First things first scan for codes using vcds. Usually a cel wont light up if it is intermittent. A failing fuel pump control module can affect starting and drivability. Also, you may hear some whining coming from the rear near the seat bench. You most likely have p3089.

    Thanks guys.

I finally had a chance to look at this more closely as there is now an active check engine set. The code this time is not the temperature thing. Its a P0455 code, EVAP gross leak/ no flow, suggest replacing the EVAP sol valve (n80).

I want to double check if a hose disconnected as the timing belt was recently replaced. Otherwise it doesn't seem like anyone stocks these locally besides the Audi dealer, currently at $40.

As a follow up, I swapped the EVAP valve (n80) and all is well. I used a dremel to cut off the old clamps and the seal pick tool technique to easily break the hoses loose... Now the daughter mentions the car is loud in second gear. I took a look and found the two exhaust pipe band clamp rings rusted off (the clamp in the center, the rings and bolts are not stainless I guess). Doesn't seem to be a replacement stocked locally and the OEM band part seems in good shape, just nothing to hold it in place. So I wrapped a generic autozone 2 1/4 inch band clamp around the existing clamp for the time being. It seems to be holding OK. I looked up the DIY test pipe instructions to get an idea of how things go together. A lift would have been nice, but I had enough room to work with the front up on ramps.

This forum has so many helpful members and information, thanks again.
