    Flat Bottom Steering Wheel Fitment

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hi All,

Can someone please help confirm if this will plug and play into my 2006 A6/C6 currently with the 4 spoke steering wheel. I want to upgrade to this if it's a direct fit.
    http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-2016-Aud...1UOEyn&vxp=mtr

I called my local Audi dealer and gave them my VIN# to find out my steering wheel airbag part#, which is part# 4F0880201BH6PS; 4F0880201AS6PS but I can't find any info on if it's a SINGLE or DUAL stage airbag.
    https://parts.audiusa.com/p/Audi__/D...0201BH6PS.html

if that wheel fits in my car because it's a single stage air bag will the controls be plug and play or will it have to be rewired as seen in this thread?

Thanks in advance for your help

    Hi
I'm really sorry if I ruin your post, but I'm new in here so i don't know where to post this.
Hope you can bare with me.

    I am doing something similar.

I have a 2010 A6 2.7 Tdi Q Avant S-Tronic with a MF 4 spoke wheel, and I bought myself a flatbottom S-Line wheel on ebay. I thought it was plug and play but it wasn't.
The wiring and connector was not the same, so does anyone know where I can buy a new harness for my new wheel to fit?
I can post pics of both wheels if that can help.

    Best wishes
    Pål

Deebee, is your stock wheel a single or dual stage airbag? Look at the plugs on the back of the airbag. If you have 2 connectors then it's a dual stage. The replacement airbag needs to be the same. I'm guessing the pictures you've posted are of the wheel you obtained and that looks to be a single stage.

Atomic13mjb I'm not sure if mine is single or dual stage, I will have to check. So will I be able to use any steering wheel as long as the single/dual stage airbag fits?

Those pictures I posted was a wheel on eBay that I wanted to purchase if it fit. I see a lot of the newer A3 flat bottom steering wheels with round airbag that I really want. I asked the sellers and they said it won't fit but I've seen other C6 use the newer steering wheels with round airbags before.

You need to find out if your original is single or dual first as they are not interchangeable. You will find a lot of people make suggestions on how to wire the duals as a single and vice-versa. Bottom line, don't do it. The dual stage airbags are chambered against one another. The first stage is for slower speed impacts and doesn't come out as violent. The second stage chambers through the first stage, after it has fired, at a much higher velocity. There are also differences in the electrical impedance between single and dual making the signal that fires the airbag(s) different. If your insurance company ever finds out you've tampered with your setup and it wasn't done properly then they have legal rights to not cover you. There's a lot on the subject available out here, just proceed with extreme caution. If you find a setup that has a wheel with the correct airbag that fits it properly then you should be good. Don't mess with the stock configuration (keep single as single, dual as dual) trying to 'make something work'. It could mean not being covered by insurance, your life, or both.

There are a couple of different airbags available that are round. The airbag mounting type needs to match the wheel. You may need to search around a bit to find the correct one but it is doable.

I've also heard of certain companies capable of switching out the airbag igniters but I don't know too much about it and would be cautious going that route.

so I called my local Audi dealer and gave them my VIN# to find out my airbag part#, which is part# 4F0880201BH6PS.

After searching eBay I only found one listing for 4F0880201BH6PS but I can't tell if it's a single or dual airbag from the parts diagram provided by the seller
    http://www.ebay.com/itm/AUDI-OEM-06-...dW9a0F&vxp=mtr

but I found a few other listings for part#4F0880201 with descriptions stating that they fit 2006-2008 A6/S6 models. Can anyone confirm if these are SINGLE or DUAL stage airbags?
    http://www.ebay.com/itm/05-11-Audi-A...BXdoQZ&vxp=mtr
    http://www.ebay.com/itm/06-07-08-AUD...xWBFmc&vxp=mtr

If my car in fact a SINGLE stage airbag does that mean this single stage steering wheel will work for my car?
    http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-2016-Aud...1UOEyn&vxp=mtr

can anyone help confirm these it would be greatly appreciated as I would love to upgrade to this steering wheel if possible

    Thanks in advanced!
