Replace Pads warning and "Brake" light on

    Hey guys,

So i painted my calipers yesterday, while preparing etc, i removed the front caliper from the carrier. I also had to disconnect the wear sensor to get some free space to get the carrier bolts off. I did NOT replace pads (they are new) and when i was through doing all the work i reconnected the sensor and remounted it in the bracket.

I started the car this AM to move it out of the wifes way and saw the referenced light.. How can i clear this?

    Thanks folks.

I'm about to replace the brakes on my B8 for the first time, but coming from a B6 and B7, I think there are a few options:

-Look for any way the circuit could be broken. That's how the sensor operates in the first place; maybe disconnect and reconnect the clip, inspect the contacts, check for frayed wire, etc.
-VCDS should be able to clear it...?
-Duct tape over the idiot light

Yaah, ill take the wheel back off and dcheck.. if its not fixed by unplugging it plugging it back in i'm just going to cut that wire and "fake" the connection. I keep a good eye on my brakes so im not worried about a dummy light..

    Thanks!!

If the light is ON, and the pads are good, then there is an open circuit in the wiring to the sensor. The sensor is just a loop of wire that gets cut-thru when the pad wears away. One end of the loop is grounded, the other end goes to the Instrument Cluster. I don't think you need VAGCOM to clear the instrument cluster "Worn Pads" light.

Should be an easy fix....no need to "kludge it".

Yea, I wouldn't cut anything, I did the same thing as you. I unplugged the sensors, they might not be fully connected. disconnect and clean the ports, then reconnect and see if the issue is still there. I had no problems...

....and as soon as i say it, the light comes back on. I ordered a new sensor from ECS.. Never replaced one, does the old one just get pulled out of the Calipers or do i need to pop the Pads out first?

It's not on the calipers, it's connected to the pad. You should be able to pull it off with pliers and pop the other one on with out taking anything but the wheel off. Easy!
