Debating on buying an S4 to part it out

It's a black 6 speed S4 that has 130k miles on it. the guy is asking 5000 for it. I'm debating buying it to part it out and use some of the pieces I want for my car. I have no use for the drivetrain but it's still good. does anyone know how much a used engine, tranny go for on this car? I can price the rest out but these two piece I cant.

It depends on the health of the motor. I've seen some good motors go for $2k - $2500. Trans go for $900-1200 if memory serves me right. I know some guys have sat on motors for months before they offloaded them. I'd say it is worth it for $5K if it is in decent shape.

You will brake even at best if you pay 5k for it. Theres tons of b6 and b7 parted out right now. I wouldnt pay more than 3k for a part out car.

I usually see the motor, trans, seats, and headlights be the first things that are sold on these cars when they're parted out. The car is still running and driving and the motor from my inspection looked fine. I'm just wondering if it's worth the headache since I want the seats, the black headliner, and some other parts I find to be able to replace to my car..

that's about what I was thinking. i'm more interested in breaking even than making a profit. I can help someone out with parts and at the same time, get what I need off of it to complete my car.

I'm debating the same thing, offloading my S to a buddy to part out. For cheap too! If interested ;)

IF the motor is actually healthy I'd bet you could sell it right quick.

If I could get a motor with no cylinder scoring, good valve stem seals, good compression, and good leakdown numbers for $2k I would without hesitation.
