Good after noon. Need information fast. The engine in my 2008 audi s5 seized. Looking for another engine at the moment. What year 4.2l v8 will also work in this car? I know the v8 went from 2007-2012

Why did the engine seize? How many miles?

The mechanic says he can't tell why because it has a lot of damage. 120,00 miles on the clock

I'm at almost 130k now and that sucker never hesitates. But this post scares me so I want to understand what happened.

I am going down to the shop when I get back to Italy. The engine is taken apart at the shop. He is saying the bottom end is gone. The pistons are damaged. The rods are damaged. The heads are damaged. He said the car needs a new flywheel and clutch set. He also said it needs a new starter.

I'd guess oil starvation since it is seized.

I'd also guess any CAUA will work. Or stick in a RS5 engine.

I also thought about the RS5 engine but I haven't done the research to see what it would take to use that engine

You'd basically want to source a full RS5 as a donor. So many things are different, engine, transmission, extra cooling, exhaust, brackets, etc. Too much $$$

+1 to your post, not to mention the new Wiring (I could be wrong ~ the ECU) & ECU, which if I remember correctly (from the APR guys trying to "crack" for the supercharger) is a B*€£h to do. If U R looking to get more HP, better off to go w/S5 V8 & JHM supercharger, MUCH easier swap, already done by many members, proven successful. As an RS5 owner I can tell U it is an amazing GT, BUT, VERY few mods available & none that will give significant HP increases that R available like S5 V8, & S5 SC V6 options.
