LPFP damaged line. Need some advice.

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I was replacing the LPFP and all the clips came off easy beside one (the pressurized line). It seems as if the previous owner replaced the fuel pump before and didn't know how to properly remove that line and damaged it in the process to the point I could not unclip it.

The only resort was the break the nipple off the fuel pump (which is fine because it will be replaced)

I will have to somehow fix the damaged line, either by getting a new line or Micky Mouse it and remove the fitting and replace it with an elbow fuel hose and use clamps.

What do you guys think I should do? I would prefer to hack in an Elbow and use a screw clamp so it will be easy to service again.

If replacing the fuel line is suggested, anyone know the part number and a DIY guide?

Car isn't running and I'm stuck.

They sell a kit at most part stores. I know napa for sure. Its the hard line, connector and coupling. You need to cut yours, heat yours up (boiling water is recommendeD - think first....probably dont use a lighter around gas). I thought I recently ran across it in the DIY's but can't find it.

    Good Luck!

Yeah dude it's irritating lol. Hopefully more people will chime in. The coupling that NAPA has clips on the green fuel pump nipple?

Part # 8E0201220AF Dont know if there are any DIY's out there, just follow the line from the filter to the pump, should be pretty self explanatory.

Yep thats it. I looked for an hour last night but browsed so much studf I couldnt find it. I think Orilyes and Advanced Audo have some. Now as far as knowing every model they fit I do not. Some leg work on the guy needing the repair will be needed. Take the old nipple or new pump (if not installed) and try them out. If you cant get the nipple out and the new pump is installed I would buy all of the ones in that size range and return the extras. Hopefully you dont live too far away from the parts stores.

Hey man. Thank you for taking your time to help me out.

I went to NAPA and this older lady that worked there knew what the hell she was talking about. She helped me pick out the correct fittings and gave me a game plan to fix it.

I'm going to use a heat gun to heat the pressurized line going to the fuel pump to the fuel filter. I'll see if I can remove the old fitting. If that doesn't work, then I'll just cut the hose behind the fitting.

Either way, I'm going to jam in my own fitting and use the metal crimp to clamp down on the line to hopefully prevent leaks.

The fitting she found me is an EXACT fit and feels better than the OEM piece. (And is a much easier fitting to remove)

I also bought the quick connect kit for the hose. If I need to extend any hoses, I'll use the house from this kit. (I'm not using the fitting off this one)

I got another barb fitting just in case I need a smaller one.

First be careful using the heat gun on the fuel line. Theres a flame coming out of the heat gun. I risk a lot and that is even pushing my limit. Maybe a hairdryer or the boiling water would be better. It reminds me when I spilled a tiny bit of gas in my garage and thought its such a small amount. I didn't want it stinking up my house so i figure I would light it and let it burn. After all it was there for a while and disipated, how much/long will it burn. Well as a 5' fireball lit up my garage and black suit filled my garage I needed a new pair of shorts. I no longer under estimate gas and would not want to be in the back seat when it blows your ass out. Not worth it. Just like when I was head first in the back of an A4 cabriolet switching the fuel pump, I kept thinking how screwed I woukd be if something lit it.

I would cut the hose right behind the current fitting so you get a tight non worn fit. It will lose about an inch so hopefully you can stretch it to the nipple. If you need more I personally would do the new coupler and barb with the torch away from the car then do the boiling water and barb in the car. You should be able to use regular rubber hose or high pressure hose if you didnt want to mess with the nylon stuff bt either way youll need to at least get the barb on the nylon hose in the car currently. Its a pita, messed with emissions nylon hoses on a volvo xc90 and they are hard. Now the clamp you have, I believe is an oaetly (sp?) clamp and I thought it needed special crimpers. You may be able to get away using pliers to clamp it or get a high pressure worm clamp instead. Dont forget to put the clamps on before installing the hoses, it may make it easier. The nylon is such a tight fit I woukd bet it doesnt even need clamped but you should put something.

That was my concern as well. I took great care to keep my distance. Also the has been sitting for over a day and most of the fuel evaporated. I set down some metal sheets and plugged all the ports of the pump and used a heat gun.

The heat gun method failed because the hose started bubbling. So I just cut it as you said to do as well. Luckily, the stock line as some play and it was still long enough with the new fitting attached.

    This is the end result:

I haven't crimped the clamp yet. I'll wait till the new pump is in. I was told I can use a small pliers to do it.

All in all, everything is on track. Gotta wait for the new pump, they sent me one with a damage floater.

I just want to report back that the line is fixed and there are no leaks. This is how it ended up looking:

Alright for anyone with this issue, the part number that I found that will work is SUR&R KP130. It is a 3/8" quick connect to 5/16" nylon fuel line. It comes in a pack of 2. Works great and most part stores did not have it, had to find it online from some random parts house. Tried 5 other fittings that would not work.
