    Question about new 07 S4

Hey guys, I just picked up a used B7 S4 with 140k miles on it. It had its timing chain done 20k miles ago, new spark plugs, new oil change, and all the goodies to go with it.

It has a catless milltek exhaust and a stage 1 APR tune. I got a check engine light right when I got home (it was a 160 miles drive) and I took it to auto zone and the OBD2 reader said it was P2099, read on some threads that it's cuz it's catless and because of the aftermarket exhaust. I ended up just clearing the codes and went on my way.

I noticed, as with my friends, when I get on it (WOT) I dump black smoke. I also read that it's because I'm catless. Cool.

But I've noticed over the week of owning it it just eats oil. I've driven about 170 miles on it in about a week, and in that week I put in almost 5qt of oil. What is up with that? It feels like everytime I look at the oil with the dipstick it's always under. I'm honestly getting tired of it, and worried. I pulled a loan out for this car, and I'm afraid I'm about to get ass raped by it and should have went down another route.

Could be scored cylinder walls, could be bad valve stem seals, either way, sounds like you got hosed man. 5 qts for 170 miles is the worst consumption I have ever heard. Does the oil light come on at all?

It came on once, after I topped it off, never came back on. I'm just plagued by the Right break light flashing 24/7

Oil leaks aren't uncommon with the 4.2 engine, I've re-done my head gaskets, valve cover gaskets, oil filter gasket and a few more and I still have to top her off on oil every 1500 miles. That being said, 5 quarts in 170 miles is a lot. Take off your belly pan and see if there are visible pools of oil, you may want to look into replacing some gaskets if you go to the thicker oil and it continues to require a top off in anything less than 500 miles.

Also, what do you mean by the right break light flashing 24/7?

Try changing your PCV, pretty cheap and easy to do (although I can't imagine it would cause that much consumption).

Being catless should not cause any smoke, only that intoxicating smell.

5 quarts in 170? Damn.. are you sure you didn't mean 1/2 quart?? 5 qts should be either pooling on the ground even with a belly pan or blowing blue smoke

I'm finding it hard to believe that it stills runs good considering the amount of oil it goes through
(assuming there is no major leak)

Laughable that people think oil consumption this extreme is dictated by oil weights. OP is adding a quart every 34 miles. Here's a leak I just experienced causing a quart every 400. An oil filter housing seal gone bad under the intake manifold. It has since been fixed and consumption back to normal.

Nope, just about 5 qts, hell maybe even 6. Funny, there is no belly pan, so it wouldn't be pooled up there. I just had the car on jacks and was underneath and didn't find a single trace of oil leak. It's not blowing blue smoke either, only black smoke on WOT and white smoke when I rev the car when its in neutral.

Yea I'm surprised to. It gets up and goes pretty normally. I only maxed it out at 130 for fear of hurting her (I baby this thing). Another thing, I noticed when I shift from 1st-2nd and 2nd-3rd it feels like the RPMS drop slightly, than after a second it jumps back to normal throttle, could that be an indication of a misfire? I get no CEL, and no codes are being thrown from my OBD2 reader, like I said the only code it threw was p2099.

BTW guys, I appreciate the help, I just took my car in to the shop, I had to get a tow truck to come because my car wasn't cranking, all I heard was a loud click everytime I tried turning the key. I explained some things to them and told them about what you said and they are doing a full run down and boroscopen test and hopefully figuring out why it's not starting and figuring out where the oil is going. Should have a call Tuesday or thrusdays with some info.

Hope you solve your problem! 5 qt in 170 miles without oil leak is quite a mystery. Im betting on scored cylinders and leaky valve seals
