EPC on EPL E85 Stage 2 Tune

Anyone else getting it? Not sure if its ambient temp related and Ethanol content related... But I started getting them daily for the last two weeks. That coincides with the temp increase here in Texas. Soooo annoying!

Yup...but only if my e85 is out of percentage range. In the summer here in Las Vegas, the e85 jumped from 75% to 93%. Which can easily trip car thinking the fuel composition is off. My suggestion is get the carista app and dongle and run fault codes to see if you're running lean. Then, if your way high which you probably are, throw in 3-4 gallons of regular gas to bring down the percentage. Your testing your fuel right??
Unfortunately this is the price you pay running e85 on a car that is not meant for it.

Can you please read the codes via VAGCOM and report what they are?

I get that one on hard runs and when my E85 isn't perfect percentage. Never actually through the code, just soft ones.

I think my recent idle code could be related to yours. Possible vacuum leak instead of low fuel supply (although it could be the case since e85 varies. Fyi, I replaced the evap check valve and fuel cap. So far so good although I am crossing my fingers.

This is a very good possibility. Also, you may want to try clearing the code and log your fuel trims.

Im pretty sure my code is fuel trim related. In my opinion this car isnt meant to run E85 and I was kinda sold i to the idea that it could. I guess the question now is... Does running it with the whacky fuel trims affect the car? Would I be better off running an E70 mix?

Come to the dark side. at your age you need the classy part just as much. Sleeper mode is good enough for the older crowd. But knowing you, not going to happen lol.

Kind of Frustrated that I went with this tune to use E85 and paid the extra money for the tune and hardware and my issues are not addressed.

I hear you, that's why I went with Unitronic. Uni has a good rep and has been around for many years. Their not the fastest but they have all the safety measures still in place.

Please let me know how I can help.

Have you flashed the latest file?

Tunes do not "change" over time. You had issue in the beginning, the you replaced the fuel pump and most/all went away. You then drove several months with out a CEL and now have one.... Neither case I believe tune related. If the tune"works" and then you get a cel, it generally not the tune.

Again, please make sure your up todate.

I will check what file is on the server and flash today.

I agree that tunes dont change but conditions do. Fuel in summer can be different... Weather... Etc

Keep in mind my EPC and CEL have both been while just cruising around as I havent really been "on it" lately.

I noted the same issue with mine. Seemed to trigger the EPC light on steady state cruising, usually up a slight hill when I'm just following traffic around 45 MPH, or cruising on the interstate. I could deter it by varying the throttle on hills where it seemed more prevalent. I couldn't make it 10 miles home otherwise with having to restart the car. I diluted the ethanol with a few gallons of 93 and it seemed to help fuel trims, but the EPC issues with the fuel measuring system 2 fault were unbearable. Flashed back to the gas stage 2 file and all good for a tank and a half. Trying the new stage 2 E85 file today with fingers crossed.
I'm somewhat suspicious of the high pressure pump though. On stage 2 gas with the HPFP upgrade, fuel trims look about perfect. I would think it should need to lean it out a bit... Although the electric pump is only requesting about 25% so perhaps that is where the difference is made? Idk.

You might be onto something with the weather. It never happened to me until it got warmer. And of course the e85 went WAAAY up in percentage. I've figured it out that getting it down to about e70-e75 eliminates all trim codes and I haven't had an EPC experience in about 3 tanks. Every car seems to me much different an how it handles the alcohol.

And thats the point I have been trying to make here. A tune may work for some but not for all.

I will flash the new files and start filling with the Racetrack E70 stuff to see if that helps during the summer

Interesting. I cannot seem to get better than e66 where I am at, even in the summer. I have not had your code.

At E66 you probably will never get the code... Although you are right at the low end of where the tune is supposed to operate. I believe its E65 and above.

Seems high heat plays a part in how high your e85 can go. Car likes less purity when temp increase.

I've flashed back to the latest stage 2 E85 file.... Knock on wood, so far so good! May be too soon to tell for sure since I only have about 150 miles in, but so far the only code that's come back is the engine over speed fault due to the dsg tune. Fuel trims are still looking good, still a bit higher on part throttle, but not enough to trigger any faults yet. Using the vial test method, I'm using E90ish. File feels strong too, keeps pulling hard over 100 where it previously felt like it flattened out.

You should not be getting that engine overspeed fault code. Not if you have a proper ECU and TCU tune. It shouldn't happen, not from what I've known.

Tony said I get it cause of APR TCU tune... APR blames EPL ECU tune... Neither want to address issue. SMH

I wonder what TCU tune he has????

I wonder if people running a GIAC TCU tune get it too when paired with an EPL ECU tune. If they don't, then you know where your problem is... APR.

I've done a few launches up to speed when testing the latest EPL Stage 1 93 octane file. I'm running EPL ECU and TCU tunes. After each run I did a full VCDS scan and I never got the engine overspeed fault. Now, there was a time in the past with older files where I got the fault, but I haven't seen it at all on the latest files.

If I remember correctly, the fault in VCDS said something like, "maximum engine speed exceeded *warranty void*". Probably don't want to visit the dealer with that lingering.
