    Vibration from faulty tires?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I have a set of BBS CI-R's on Hankook ventus v12's and had installed for the first time in March. It took a month or so to notice at around 65-70 mph I get an intense vibration. When I purchased they came mounted and ground force balanced. Just yesterday I took my car to a reputable shop and they ground force balanced as well and told me they couldn't balance 3 of he four tires. He said that the tires were not in the proper GF guidelines. One was a gf of 17 and hey said that was fine. The other three were above a gf of 30. I have no idea about any of this but does that sound normal and has anyone else experienced this. I'm still getting the vibration after dropping $100 for a rebalance. They attempted several times and said they could not get a proper balance.

I would talk to whoever originally sold you the wheels and tires. It can definitely happen where the tire did not come perfectly out of the mold, and they have a higher road force on them which would cause the vibrations.

Thats what the shop was saying. Is there a different g force for each specific brand of tire? Where would I find what is a "normal" gf rating? I purchased from a reputable company from here as well so hopefully all will go smooth.

I don't believe so. All tires should be around 10 or so on the road force balance machine. Someone on here told me that after tires wear in for a couple hundred miles, you can get them re balanced, and then that should help, but you have already been driving around on them, so that should all be fixed.

Are the tires fitted correctly? Tires have a high spot (red dot) and or a light spot (yellow dot) indicated on the side wall, the red dot takes priority over the yellow dot when it comes to balance and should be installed inline with to the wheel valve. If there's no red dot then the yellow should be positioned inline with the valve then balance them again.
If there's no markings on the tire then it may be worth rotating the tire 180' from its current position and check balance again.

I just took a look and the one that they said was balanced happens to be one with the red dot right at the valve. The other ones that he said were defective had the red dot removed and there was a chalk line lined up with the valve. They definitely removed The three other tires a few times to try and get it right but they said they could not due to defective tires

I had a defective tire on my corvette once. Same symptoms you have. I would try and get a refund from the place you bought the tires.

They just scrub right off with a small stiff brush. To the OP: My Ventus V12's vibrate for the first 5 minutes or so everyday. Then they smooth out. I had mine re-roadforced as you did, and it didn't help. I battled this for years with Kumho tires on an 02 Z28 Camaro and swore off Kumhos forever because of it.

Correct, and I've mentioned the 180, and re-mount before.

Nick - I removed a couple of yours.

It's so annoying. When I drive I try and keep it at 60 because I feel like I'm driving a shit box because of it lol. I'm wondering if any others with hankook have had this issue. I know there are a bunch that run them. I'm gonna Check the hub centric rings tomorrow and verify that they are the correct size.

    Are you running spacers?

I had vibration running the ECS 8mm spacer that just wouldn't go away no matter how many times I reseated the wheel using two wheel hangers. The spacer wasn't hub-centric so wasn't allowing the wheel to centre on the hub correctly. Fitted the 10mm spacer that was hub-centric and the vibration went away.

I have no issues with my stocks on. I brought it to a reputable shop who seems to think 3 out of 4 tires are defective. He says hey can't balance three of them. They tried for quite some time and said that the hunter 9700 said they would cause vibration due to numbers being higher than normal.
