    That's pretty good! I just got 25mpg headed out to the Bay Area last week (dsg/Ac/driver/passenger with 91/e85) but I hit a few spots of stop and go traffic.

    I've gotten 28 out of a tank, but that was moving in fairly heavy traffic @ ~55-65 for hours on end...

    I normally see 25-26.5 on highway tanks. 29.5-21 around town..

    Does anyone else find it annoying that the avg. fuel economy on the OBC resets itself at random intervals?

    I get about 27 sometimes 28 on the morning going south on 93 with mostly in D (DSG), and about 23-24 on my way back from work in the afternoon with traffic (all with AC running). I managed to get 31 MPG for a 40 mile trip of back roads at about 45 to 50 mph driving in D with a passenger and AC running this past weekend. I was very surprised at the 31MPG but i must have been getting reduced drag from the car in front and was able to coast frequently.

    Jeez, I wish I could see that kind of economy! I drive in town almost 100%, but it's not heavy stop and go traffic. My tank averages have been in the 16-17 mpg range, with a couple below 16. I know it'd be better on highway trips, but oh well. I didn't buy it for the fuel economy.

    around town , 4 miles to work, a mile or two to Wendy's for lunch then return home. I get 17 mpg up to 18 mg. Not real stop and go, just a few traffic lights. Around 16 mpg in winter.

    I don't think it's random. I remember reading somewhere that it resets 2 hours after the engine is turned off.
    So if you go shopping, or to dinner it will record the average MPG going and coming as long as you're not away from the car for more that 2 hours.

    I've gotten ~27 before as well.

    I normally get around ~22 though. I drive mostly highway but, prefer to keep the engine in sports mode and drive somewhat spiritedly.

    If you use the #2 set of displays, the fuel econ does not auto reset after 2hrs.

    If it annoys you set for "2" in fuel economy and it will be average from time you reset it using button on bottom of wiper level.

    What the computer tells us and what our -ACTUAL- mpg is... is not the same!

    Every time I fill up I calculate, (mileage that I have on the trip/gallons pumped)... I think everyone should do this and see if they get the same results that I get.

    End results:
    Computer = 21-22mpg
    Calculation = 17-19mpg

    Correct. Everything under the "1" setting will reset after the car is turned off for a consecutive 2 hours.

    That's almost exactly my driving profile too, so it's good to see I'm not too far off. I forgot to mention, it's hotter than the pits of hades here in TX this time of year, so obviously that's running AC full blast all the time as well as not being very gentle with the loud pedal.

    Computer seems a bit optimistic, it's been that way on every car I've owned with that capability.

    i'll have to give it a try. I drive about 26 miles each way for work. per the display i can normally get to about 30+/- 2 MPG if I dont' have any traffic. I just refueled yesterday and drove 1 round trip on it. so maybe in about 5 days or so i'll record the miles and see what I get w/ the averaging.

    Below is my gas mileage using the iPhone app Road Trip.

    Live in Orange County, CA. The spikes in MPG are when I go visit my in-laws in San Diego, 91 miles away. My work commute is roughly 4 miles from home. California gas blows.

    See, I've been fairly impressed with the S4's in-city gas milage. On 91 I can average up to about 21 mpg, with E85 mix more like 19 mpg.

    However, it doesn't seem like it improves much when you actually get it on the highway. I recall being rather disappointed with mediocre mid-twenties milage from Denver to Albuquerque on 91😭

    I once made 48 mpg in an '88 Honda civic on the exact same drive lol

    Call me crazy, but I feel like the mpg's on the S4 is nearly the same as my old A4 lol. I average about 225-250 miles to the tank, but I also haven't done a big road trip in the car yet. Are you guys averaging the same?

    It's usually off by 2-3 MPG

    There's a lot of factors in how well i Do but the biggest one seems to be tires -- I consistently get much better MPG with my winter tires (Michelin Pilot Alpin) than my grippy track tires (Bridgestone Potenza RE11) -- coming downhill from Tahoe helps too -- go figure :-P

    The S4s trip computer is a joke. Audi should be embarrassed. To be consistently off by 3-5mpg is inexcusable. My 14 year old Nissans mpg estimates are spot-on. I am guessing Audi did this on purpose to fool owners into thinking the car is more efficient than it really is.

    If you want to adjust the trip computer to be a bit more precise:
    Use VCDS to go into 17-Instruments->Adaptation->"Display correction of consumption and operating range", and put in a new value of 105%. Test and Save.

    I completely agree that the trip computer MPG is designed to report very conservative values. I agree with the poster above that VW/Audi does that intentionally to give the owners a better feeling about their car's efficiency that it deserves. This is right up there with the diesel emissions scandals and should be pursued by our agencies. My several BMWs also report optimistically high MPG values. All of my BMWs, MINI and Audi can be and have had their correction factors adjusted. My Audi took an 8% correction and now it is spot on in terms of MPG accuracy. Anyone who wants to report MPG to the forum needs to reduce the numbers by 8% from what the trip computer says. So for example if your trip computer reads 25 MPG, you are actually getting 23 (8% less).

    Yep, mine is an average of 10% off.
