I'm getting offered 25K, not bad in my eyes, and it simplifies the whole exchange. 92K miles, mods below. What do you think?

Not in US, I do see plenty in mid 20'. Sadly, even thought they are limited edition, they are still depreciated.

Really? Go search on Autotrader and cars.com right now and you will see that you are wrong. The strong majority of RS4's in the US are $30+

Sure, cars in the mid 20's can be found without a problem, but cars in that price point are definitely in the small minority.

Back to Winterrunner's original post, I'd be curious what others have been offered recently by dealers for a trade. To me, trading in with a dealer is worth the tax savings and avoiding the headaches associated with selling privately. The question is just how much of a haircut is tolerable.

I think that's reasonable - don't have to deal with the patience or headache a private sale can lead too. I assume this is a dealer vs CarMax?

I think its a tough call. Trade in surely saves you a lot of hassle (you will miss your RS and you know it!!!:)) But they'll never give you any value for your extensive mods. Honestly $25k is not bad I agree for trade in. But I bet you could pull well over $30k in private sale, where you can get some value for all your aftermarket parts from a fellow enthusiast / someone who appreciates all the work you did.

I had this same dilemma on my last car, decided to wait and private sell - ended up getting $3k more than the best trade in I found which is substantial. Private sale you can also ask the buyer to "faux" the sales price to drastically reduce your taxes.

I've seen some RS4s on Bringatrailer etc with 100-120K miles go for over $30k recently.

What are you getting / how are you going to replace your beast!!?? Best of luck

My bad, it could be region/season. After I bought mine, quite a few up on CL and AutoTrader in mid 20', but now none left. One salvage for 20K

Thanks for the info guys, I'm moving into a 09 R8 4.2, staying Daytona though! I know I could probably get 30 for my car, but as others pointed out, the hassle free exchange and savings of sales tax etc to me, is worth it. I may snag a few parts off her before the trade in, but honestly there's not too much.

Trades are always a game as they give you a few extra bucks for the trade and less of a discount on what ever you are buying, so its hard to tell... overall, 25 seems reasonable - I was offered 23 for my 07 (pretty much stock). it would be an easy transaction, but you are leaving money on the table on any trade with a dealer - which is their business. they make it easy for you and make some cash in the process. some of the mods you have are "easily" taken off and sold separately - maybe make a few extra bucks on the exhaust pieces, spacers, etc would be an idea if they will give you the same money without them. In the end I'll end up selling mine myself - because I'm a cheap bastard and want that extra cash in my own pocket... :)

Agree 100% with this. Best of luck with the trade with whatever route you end up going! I was considering early year V8 R8's as well prior to my RS4 purchase.

I think it's a fair offer as well… time is money. Sure your could probably get a little more for it private/enthusiasts sale. But you'd have the time invested of a really good bath ext/int,pics, run around of a potential PPI from probably one of us Then the time spent on calls, emails, text pics to give the potential buyer the warm and fuzzies..then chances are coordinating with the shipper too! call me crazy but when i sell , i always price aggressively to make it a quick and easy process for both parties involved to avoid the run around…done!plus you'd save yourself a few weeks of countless questions and pics. Nice upgraded ride!

    I'll buy it for 25!..

Sounds like an easy transaction. Unfortunately for the next owner they will always wonder who the previous owner was and what they did with it, how the kept up with maintenence, etc. As someone that was searching a long time for a b7 s4 it is always kind of a mystery buying from dealers. They might have a carfax or something similar but they rarely will provide any other details. Always a lot better to talk to the previous owner in my mind, You get a much more rich history of the car. And you get to see the smile on someone's face when they take it home. That's my .02 on it.

Thanks for the weigh in fellas. I'll be bringing the R8 to you soon Rick for a once over and fluid/oil change.

Just didn't want the hassle as others pointed out, 25 is enough to satisfy me. Hopefully the next buyer will have all my service papers passed on, I am leaving them with the dealer and with instructions to do so. It is a dealer though...

Nice trade-up man! Pics of the new car are mandatory!
IMO the price of 25k is decent, from what I have seen your market. In the EU they go much cheaper.
