    3.5" intercooler core - stock b5 s4 bumper

Has anyone successfully done it? Summers here are brutal and A/C is a must.

3" already looks tight. I did some measuring and with a stock s4 front bar, a 3.5" core is going to require A LOT of cutting. I'm not even sure if its possible without removing the A/C condenser, something I am really trying to avoid.

    Searching didn't return much.

Looking at the big single turbo guys with stock front bumpers.. rockcandy, cacti, who ever else.

    I put a 3inch on my A4. Removed A/C as well, I'm a windows down guy anyways.

It required a lot of cutting. Granted you have more room on an S4 bumper, but I really think you are pushing it with the condenser in there. Possible? Yeah, probably. Won't have much crash bar left thought.

The question is, though, what size turbo(s) you plan on running and do you absolutely need that large of an intercooler? I can get a couple pics of my Tr11 install on my A4 if you want. It fits, but just barely.

Intercooler in question is actually the TR12C.

    Turbo is a 6266 Gen 2.

I'd like to upgrade to a 6466 down the track, so i'd prefer to do it once, rather than later on down the track. The crash bar doesn't really phase me, it's more so the bottom portion (below the crash bar).

3" should be sufficient for anything you throw at it, as long as it is a quality core. if my memory serves correct, mike hood is running a 3.5" core behind his s4 bumper

Yes it probably would. But a PWR core is $800usd. Not really looking to spend just that much at this point in time when the TR12C is 300

as in cut the bottom half of the core off so the IC will be closer to the radiator?

I like this idea a lot.

Any idea if fucking with the condenser like that will have detrimental effects on its ability to keep the A/C blowing ice cold?

I plan on doubling up the core by cutting it in half and then welding 180 degree fittings between the two. It will probably slightly effect the efficiency since im reducing the core size but I still will have air when I need it.

I have a 3.5 inch on my S4, and yes, a lot of cutting is required, but I didn't have to remove anything except the fog lights.
