Cool 2015 RS5 Black Widow Build

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hi Everyone!

I wanted to share with you the current state of my Black Widow 2015 RS5 Build. After 2 long years, I am finally at a point in the build where I am happy with how it is coming along. I purchased my baby around mid August of 2014 and it has been a long road of many emails and phone conversations to get to where I am at now. Here are the current specs of the customized work and additions that have been added to her.

    • Opti-Coat Pro Coating
    • Clear Bra on Nose and Side view Mirrors
    • 3M Crystalline Tint CR 40 on all glass
    • H&R Sport Springs
    • H&R TRAK+ Spacers
    • AWE Track Extreme Edition Exhaust
    • Custom Airbrushing on Hood
    • Custom Interior

My inspiration for the interior came from the fact that I heard that only 75 RS5's were built with the Sport Edition interior. So after doing some searching I found the look of the Sport Edition interior and I decided to tweak it a little. All of the interior was removed, re-stitched and re-piped in red. The front door panels and back panels were removed and redone in red leather. The back speaker grills were repainted in red to match the new red leather. The front and rear backs of the seats were redone in red leather and custom embroidered. The shifter boot was redone in red leather and black stitching. The black seat belts were removed and redone in red.

The Black Widow on the hood was custom airbrushed by Niko Szymansky, from the History Channel show "American Restoration". He first appeared on the show in Season 5 Episode 4. I worked for a long time with him to iron down the design for the hood of the car. My priorities were that it had to look 3 dimensional when sitting on the hood, and had to be classy but cool looking , also I wanted it subdued so it didn't stand out and take away from the car (this is an Audi after all).

I am going to apologize ahead of time for my lack of picture taking abilities.

I would very much like to hear some constructive criticism from you guys as well as any other ideas you might have on any other additions that you think might be good to do.

Oh, almost forgot to say. See you guys on Sunday July 17th at Englishtown NJ for Waterfest 2016, stop by and say hello. I will be their on Sunday and a participant in the Car Show!

    Enjoy the pics!!

The ride height combined with the spacers looks good.

I'm not a big fan of the spiders on the seats, and the hood is not to my taste (although that's easily returned back to stock down the road), but everything else looks great and I can certainly appreciate the vision.

I can't imagine re-sale being simple with the spider stitching on each seat though.

Even though it's something I would not have done on my car, everything seems to follow your vision and was made professionally with evident quality and craftsmanship. Love the stance and the wheels truly show off the scalloped brake discs. The black widow spider graphic on the hood is subdued and the expertise of the artist shows. You should be proud.

I may use red piping on my lunar silver interior and shifter boot with red stitching on the steering wheel as my grey piping just gets lost.

In the near future, paint the rear brake plates red, as the front brakes, apply a new RS sticker, and clearcoat. Maybe try a little red on the edges of the front grill or on the front lower lip -a little red lipstick on the front ;). Oh, try to using a circular polarizer filter to eliminate reflections on photographs.

The work quality is great. Just not a personal fan of the spiders on the interior and hood, albeit, they were still done with great workmanship.

It might seem a little overpowering when you see the photos as I have them. I can assure you that at first glance if you were to see the car, you would not even notice that the hood has been customized nor would you notice the interior. It is not until you get up close that you see the customization that was done. Which was the intentions of the build from the start.

The car will never be sold, so its re-sale is of no concern to me. But thank you for appreciating the vision behind the build.

Sometimes you have to take a chance, there is always a black sheep in the flock and I wanted to be that black sheep. It gets boring being one of the plain sheep.

Thank you very much for seeing the quality of the workmanship. Believe me, all of my decisions on who was going to do the work and what they were going to do were difficult decisions to make. It took a lot of time to make sure I had the right people for each task. Anyone of these projects could have gone terribly wrong with disastrous consequences. I love my car and take pride in the work that has been done and I can look back and reflect on my decisions and say that I would have made them all over again if I had to.

As an artist the only way I grow in my profession is to be able to view everything with an open mind, see the creativity and vision behind the concept, then comment on its execution.

Makes sense. I have zero artistic skills but I know how to make a car look good. I'll check your pictures out when I get home.

Craftsmanship looks to be top notch, but your "theme" is (just my opinion) overstated. I say that from a potential re-sale/trade-in value. Customizing a higher end car to this degree will appeal to an even narrower segment of the market. I would have had the Black Widow stitched to the center console area only. Easy to replace & significantly less expensive/ time consuming should you need to sell/trade. Love the 2 tone red/black, the red seat belts, speaker cover, just not the BW embroidered on the seats. Very bold move & hope this works out well for you. Best of luck to you.

Workmanship looks top notch. It's refreshing to see someone venture down a different path than what is typically seen on Audizine. Great vision, subdued and consistent theme, excellent execution. Well done!

I totally agree with you regarding re-sale, had that been a concern of mine then your choice of just stitching the center console area would be an excellent alternative. Like you said, it would be easy to replace. Thank you for your comment.

Yes, it is something that really needs to be seen in person. You are correct with the pics location, that is the first lookout area of the Palisades Parkway. Stop by on Sunday at Waterfest, would be great to BS about cars. =)

I created the outline of the Black Widow spider for the embroidery of the leather seats in Adobe Illustrator myself. Its just a Black Widow spider from a top down perspective, so there are not many different ways it can be drawn. =P So if it resembles a logo or symbol of some other brand it would not surprise me.

Audi's have a classy/elegant feel and keeping inline with that was difficult to achieve but it was my main focus of this build. Seeing it in person you can really appreciate the subtleness of the build, when you drive past me on the highway you will never even notice the customization that has been done. Its not until you get up close and personal that you can enjoy the craftsmanship of the build. Thanks for you comments, 15DGR V6. Very much appreciated.

I was a little concerned that the red on the seat belts would not match the leather interior but after getting samples of it my mind was put at ease. The red seat belts would accent the exterior color of your car exceptionally well. I am sure you are very happy with the results, its an excellent touch.

    Hey Guys,

Just a quick update. I took second place in my mod/category for the Show Car event at Waterfest 2016. It was my first time at Waterfest and I didn't know what to expect when showing the car to the judges, so I messed up a little. =( I am pretty confident I should be able to take first place next year (if i go).

I truly love the red accents to the interior....but the spiders, not so much. Despite that looks really well executed, and I can appreciate the vision to create it. Also I think the stance is about as close to perfect as you can get. Any comments on the H&R sport springs cause I'm getting the itch for moar low....

Thanks for the comments. =) I know the spiders are not for everyone, but I love spiders (I have 5 tarantulas of my own) and I dont have any intention of selling the car, so I am not really concerned about resale. As far as the H&R sport springs go, I was a little concerned myself when I purchased them that I might get too much rub. I read a lot of readers saying they bought the sport springs and then replaced them with the regular H&R springs because they had too many issues. After having them on now for about 1 and a half years, I can say that I have rub marks on 3 of my wheel wells. The worst being the drivers side where a small hole was rubbed through the wheel well. The only time you will actually hear it rubbing is when I fully turn the wheel (so I try my best never to do that ) My car is not a daily driver and most of the time I am driving by myself, so I have a very light load on the springs. I have had 5 people in the car at times and I have never had any rub when I am just driving normally. With a full load if I crank the wheel or go over a bump it might rub for a second but that is about it. I have noticed a tremendous difference in the handling of the car, compared to the stock springs, for the best of course. I hope this helps in your decision making. Love your car btw, Daytona Grey Pearl, so nice.
