    How to Recharge AC?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hey everyone,

i apologize if this is already posted somewhere, but I was unable to find it.

I've got some A/C issues (some vents blow hot, others cold, others in the middle), and I've read about the potential causes of this issue. I've decided to just recharge the air conditioning as a first step because that's (hopefully) one of the simpler of the potential fixes and because others with the same problem have had it work for them.

I've found a bunch of instructions for how to do it on the B6, but cant seem to find instructions for the B7. Anyone mind letting me know how it's done?

    Thank you!

If you have some vents blowing cold but others not, I very highly doubt it's a charging issue.

What's strange is I have this issue but after about 2-3 mins of running full blast the middle vents start to blow cold air. Where the driver side vent blew cold air the whole time and the passenger one as well. I was thinking of also recharging the AC.

I would be looking into what flaps are in the ac ducting, if any, for motors that have gone bad or stuck flaps. A good or bad charge will affect all vents. Not just some. You're wasting time and money in my opinion evacuating and charging.

It's not uncommon for an undercharged system to have cooler air blowing out of some than others. Obviously, the best way to recharge is to have it serviced by professional AC folks which I would recommend. That way you will get the proper amount of coolant and lubricant. Alternatively, you could connect the pressure gauges to the high and low pressure ports and add coolant until you achieve the proper pressure readings on both gauges. Even though you may have a slow leak do not over charge the system. As a very general rule, as you charge an undercharged system the low pressure charging port will be cold and the high pressure port will be relatively hot with the system running at max cool. As coolant is added the high pressure port will start to cool down. Stop adding coolant at this point. I repeat, this process is best left to the professionals - do not overcharge the system.

As Brillo said, take it to an AC shop, and have them include the dye. AC's are a closed system, so they shouldn't need to be charged, if they do, there is a leak. If there is a leak, you want to know where it is, so you need the dye to see.
