    Breaking in 2017 Audi R8

I know this isn't the most crowded R8 group out there but I thought I'd send this out anyway...

How are people doing on breaking in the new 2017 R8? I have a Daytona Gray V10 Plus with almost 1100 miles on it so far. I just took it on a ride to Lick Observatory and then The Junction, up Mines Rd which is a really interesting route. It was super quiet, too.

I'm trying to keep the torque and power under 50%, as it says not to use full acceleration until at least 1200 miles. I'm hoping to get an early oil change very soon, too.

What mileage is everyone else at, and any interesting anecdotes? For instance, should I be doing any service to the transmission fluid during the break in? I've attached a picture from Mines Rd today when I hit 1,000.0 miles!

babying the car is not breaking it in. don't listen to the dealer, you are supposed to beat the piss out of the car to set the rings. its possible your cylinder walls are already glazed over, and would never allow your rings to seat properly. hope its a lease lol

The dealer said to beat the piss out of it, LOL. However, when I was visiting the factory in May I talked to one of the lead engineers on the R8/Lamborghini engine specifically about this issue, and he said that what you are saying above is a complete fabrication, at least for the V10.

BTW thanks for the warm "hello" ;) I guess this is the reason the R8 threads are empty here. The hateorade is uncalled for.

lol i am not aware of any breakin process that the manufacturer does before shipping the car. when you got the car with "x" amount of miles you dont even know how many oil changes it had, because the proper way to break in a brand new engine involves 3 oil changes on the 1st day.

The engineer described specifically what the process was to break in their race car engines for the 24 hour races, etc, and said that with the production R8 V10 all of the engines will ship with over 50 miles on them as part of the break in process. After that, he suggested not pushing it or taking it over 5,000 RPM for 2000 miles. I am gonna do what the manual says, though, cause it is much more lenient, but in line with his recommendations.

I am aware of the break in process particularly with airplane engines. Thanks for your input.

Just yesterday! I hit 1000 miles on Mines Road at 11:26 am on 6/26/2016 per my car’s UI :) I kind of went out there by accident, since I had never been on those roads before. There was some loose gravel being picked up by my sticky tires for part of the downhill, but otherwise it was a great drive! I see there was a caravan here about a month ago and just read about it right AFTER I got back. I’ll definitely check for future meet ups. I do still love the V8 R8 sound a little bit better, BUT this V10 screams so loud it’s awesome.

Folks, someone gets paid to write the manuals. The manuals are screened and then approved. Why would Audi inform customers of an improper break in procedure?

I am on Euro delivery at present. Following Audi break in guidelines is hard to do on the autobahn. I babied it for the first 500 miles.
Started pushing a little more from 500 to 1000 miles, after 1000 miles it was time to drive it like I stoles it😎
