    Question for 20" wheel/tire people

Put this up in the wheel forum and thought I'd do so here as well.

I ran into an issue yesterday when swapping out my current 20" wheels for a new set of 20" Vorsteiners swapped. Wheel specs between old and new are the same so I was planning to use my existing Continental ExtremeContact DWS 275/30/20. BUT, when they pulled the tires off the outgoing wheels they discovered that the side walls were deteriorated (cracks and debris) and would need to be replaced. These tires are only ~year old with maybe 10-15K miles on them.

Under inflation of the tires is the only thing I can think that would cause this premature degradation in the tire side walls aside from a mfg defect. I've been running 35-38 psi on the tires.

Question: Is this pressure too low for a 275/30/20 tire?

A new set of the current DWS 06 tires were ordered and will be mounted today. The Discount Tire computer recommends pressures of 32 front, 38 rear...

What pressure are the other allroad, 20" wheel guys using?

I'm surprised you didn't file a warranty claim. Sidewall deterioration sounds like a materials thing, I.e. manufacturers defect. Unless you had the tire repaired, out something that actually void the warranty, to should be able to get a new tire (free for < 12 months, pro rated for more).

As to the tire pressure, although those numbers are on the lower side of what people put in, that's not under inflated.
    Everything graciously mispelled by Apple

I agree, the deterioration could be a mfg defect. Hard to prove possibly. Tires were purchased online when I picked up the outgoing wheels. Discount Tire wouldn't be the one to warranty them I think. I'll mention it today none the less.

I wouldn't think the pressures would be under inflated either. Curious what others are going with...

My tires are set around 35, too. (Although I'm 255 width). May be worth looking in to a warranty claim if you can.
