    Bad CV Joint?

So I was on my way home and I noticed a screeching coming from the driver's side front. I figured it was something to do with the control arms, I had just replaced all my front control arms, sway bar end links, TRE's, and wheel bearings. I thought maybe something had just come loose. About 5 minutes from home all sounds ceased. Everything sounded okay. I got home and saw grease all over the drivers side front wheel and the wheel well. The outer CV joint boot ripped and the clamp had come off. I think maybe I may just need to replace the boot, but I'm not sure. Anybody have some guidance for me? Thanks in advance.

Given that it just happened and you haven't been driving on it letting it wear without being greased, you should be fine just replacing the boot

I have a quick update. So I replaced the outer boot using a Rein boot kit from ECS. Took the joint apart, de-greased everything, put it back together, added a pack of joint grease, and clamped the boot onto the joint. Took her for a test drive and I'm still getting a squeaking noise when I turn right. I'm thinking maybe the grease needs time to work it's way in to any small cracks that didn't get greased when I added it in? I'm not getting any adverse effects while driving, it's just a little noisy.

Have you checked brakes and calipers?

I doubt the brakes are the issue if I'm only hearing squeaking when turning to the right. No noise while turning left. No squeaking or noise while braking.

Did you properly torque all your lugs? I had some one sided squeaking and one of the wheels was just slightly loose

Yeah I made sure all lugs were torqued to spec. I'm starting to think the joint itself may be going bad. I inspected the joint when I took it apart and it seemed okay but I can't think of anything else that could be causing the noise.

So I think I may have found the culprit. I did some searching around and found a post from someone saying they were having similar issues and it was their brake rotor rubbing against the shield (not sure of the actual name) behind it. I remember bending it a bit when I was doing my front control arms. Looked at it today and I could see a mark where it looked like the rotor might have been making contact with it. I bent it back and the squeaking is still there but it has definitely gotten better. I'm going to play with it a little more and see if I can solve it.
