    Prestige HUD

For those that have the prestige build of the 17' Audi A4 can you post pictures or a video of the HUD? What information is shown, can you toggle what is shown in the HUD? Can the color be changed? What's the visibility like both at night and during the day? What are your thoughts on it?

    Thanks

I really like it in both my A4 & Q7, but just make sure you're not wearing polarized sunglasses. I thought there was something wrong with the one in my new Q7 that I took delivery of first until one evening at dusk, I took my prescription sunglasses off .

Personally from a pilot that flies an aircraft with a HUD I found the HUD on the A4 a no go for me.

IIRC and that's what I was told when I test drove an A4 with a HUD display, if you do not program a route in the NAV system all you get in the HUD for display is your speed.

If you program a route in the NAV system, you get your speed plus some of the NAV system's info; arrows when an upcoming turn is coming up with some additional info.

So to me just having the speed info up because you are not going to program your NAV system all the time was IMHO not worth it.

That's disappointing to hear about the limited HUD. Guess I have no idea what else I'd want it to display but some options would be nice.

What I would really like to be displayed in the HUD as an option would be... Speed + RPM + gear selection. Of course Nav info too when required.

I'm a military pilot HUD user as well, and while I would very much appreciate user selected options (or more options in general) I like the HUD for what it does because, let's be realistic, operating in two dimensions at slow speed (i.e. less than 300 kts) doesn't present quite the same cognitive load. I've tried it out here in Germany, and for all the unfamiliar driving I do around Europe, a network-based Google maps system (with commands transmitted to the nav) is a godsend. The nav symbology and visuals are simple and easy to understand, and the HUD position does its job of keeping your eyes outside.

BL: It's a go for me!

    I like the head-up display...

I have the HUD, and I dig it.

Honestly, I just picked up my Prestige-equipped B9 earlier today, and have an incredibly extensive 12 hours of ownership under my belt. But so far so good! As such...

Visibility is very good, day or night. In addition to speed and nav info, it also can show adaptive cruise control, active lane assist, and "predictive efficiency assist" data. It also displays recently scanned speed limit signs. And according to rumor and the internet, it will pop up "Audi pre sense" warning messages during an immanent emergency. I hope to never discover that last feature.

Anyway... if you have a few extra shekels laying around, it is a fun purchase... but it does nothing that you actually need.
An optimist will tell you the glass is half-full. A pessimist will tell you the glass is half-empty. An engineer will tell you the glass is twice the size it needs to be.

I also like the HUD. Since I don't have adaptive cruise control (I wish I had ordered it). It's nice that it doesn't have a lot of stuff on there since more things would be distracting (although it would be neater). I thought I might get too distracted by it, but I've gotten used to it and rarely look down to check my speed. I actually think its more cool than the virtual cockpit.

We miss out on a few things with the AUS delivery though this is one feature that we do get with the "Technik" package. Personally, I like just having the speed on the screen when I don't have the ACC or NAV active, it's all that I need.
The only thing that would be nice is the current speed limit which we only get displayed on the MMI screen when we have NAV active. With NAV active, the speed limit doesn't show on the VC Dash when you're using NAV on there which is a bit of a pain.

It will be interesting to see what can be pulled out of the OBD/VAG in total once others get to explore all of the options in full as per the start/stop thread though this may be slow coming as over at the Ross-Tech site they advise that the current HEX-CAN tool wont work with our vehicles and the new HEX-NET tool is required.

I also suffer the same issue when wearing polarised sunglasses.......

Do you have to have the drivers assistance package to get the speed limit on the HUD or does it just display it from its data via navigation.

Also how bad does polarized sunglasses mess up viewing the HUD?

The Audi Pre-Sense displays with a Big RED triangle.. and the car does break if you do not get to the brake pedal in time. I experienced this when all the traffic came to a sudden holt. I was doing about 50-60KM/h and everything just stopped, I could feel the brakes kick in a just before i hit the brakes. as for the HUD it is great to have if you use lane assist and ACC...also great with traffic congest. you can keep your eyes on the road vs. looking for info on the virtual cockpit.

Question, do you get a shadow on the windshield from the square cutout of the heads up display when the sun hits it in certain directions? I remember having this in my 97 Grand Prix and it did that, it always annoyed me. Although, heads up display once you get used to having you don't want to live without, mine just showed speed, radio station, low gas and maybe turn signal. Not bad for 20 years ago.

Yes it does but to be honest i thought it would bother me but after 900KM using it all the time...did a 500KM trip on Wednesday I do not notice it anymore. I have set the height to as low as possible with a clear view over the steering wheel and that seemed to make it more comfortable for me.

Not sure about the US though there's no speed limit on the HUD in AUS. Polarised Sunnies (Ive got Bill Bass) basically kill the HUD when you have your head upright/normal. Tilt your head slightly and the HUD appears.

You can go into the MMI and turn the HUD left or right...display will not be level but that should make it work without having to tilt your head with polarized glasses....not the best but worth the effort. Canada version shows the Speed limit as soon as it sees the first sign...you have to turn on the feature in the MMI
