Q for those with Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3+

    Two quick questions:

For those running 19s, does this tire have a rim protector lip?

I know the performance is not PSS or S-04 levels, but did you feel like you were giving up a lot of grip going to an all season from a summer tire? Was the gain in longevity worth what is hopefully only a small performance drop?

    Thanks!

I had a set for a year and they were a solid tire. Lots of rim protection - wider than PSS.

I went back to PSS - for me it was about performance over a quieter tire.

I have them on my stock rotor wheels, and they were a definite upgrade over the previous set of summer tires that were on when i bought the car, yokohama s-drive iirc. i only put about 1500 miles on them because i bought a different set of wheels that also came with max performance summer tires...

while my experience with the tires is limited, they were quiet and performed well for my needs, and had a nice square setup on the 19x8.5 wheel.

I've had the A/S 3 + for about two months now. Very happy with its grip. Definitely feels comparable to a max performance summer though not AS good compared to the PSS. The benefit is the additional treadlife warranty and the capability to drive in light snow.

Had a set before going to PSS. No rim protector, and no complaints regarding grip. Unfortunately they barely lasted to 25-30k with typical daily driving, so I took the prorated warranty discount and tried PSS. Much better tire overall in regards to stability/feel (at least here in SoCal). Quieter too, and still have 30k warranty. If they last 20k then I would recommend them over A/S 3's even based on value. The PSS really do live up to the hype!

    Only 30K?

It is a performance tire, if I get 20K out of a set I'm happy.

I had the original ASW(got 28k and was happy) and just got the ASW+.

It did pick up quite a bit more in snow grip, we had 1 day it snowed after I had them installed. However there is a huge compromise in steering feel. The old tires were faster on turn in and felt a lot better. There is a lot of slop in the sidewall.

I don't drive my S4 much so I have to check the tire pressure to make sure(which could account for crappy response) but there were some performance give aways compared to the original. The old tire was great in the dry, good in the rain, and horrible in the snow. Lateral grip was non-existent and gave way pretty easy.

While the snow performance is better that lateral grip is now missing in the ASW+, they are pretty squirrelly when pushed hard. It is not as bad if your in Sport mode with the AWD because its easy to correct with a bit of throttle.

Still better than any other A/S tire out there. Once my car gets back from the body shop I'll check the tire pressure and see if that does have something to do with it. I haven't touched them since they were installed and Belle Tire filled them.

As far as the PSS. Never had them on the S4 but I have them on my '14 Stingray and they are the most amazing tire I have driven on minus a true slick. I just turned over 26,000 miles. 13,000 of it stock, 4,000 at 640hp and the balance at 720hp. For a small 285 series tire I cannot believe how much traction I get with that kind of power. I've driven them in the mountains in 20 degree weather, in driving torrential rains, cold days, hot days, you name it and they are incredible. I'm on my original set still and I keep thinking I have to replace them but so long as they hold the power I'm sticking with them.

I have not tracked my C7 but I have tracked others. Once they get hot hit well over 1g on the track, I think the most I saw was 1.4 but was told they will go a bit higher. As close to a slick as I have ever driven.

They can be a bit loud with age but a lot of noise issues come with tire size. People with Z06's and the 335's say the noise is unbearable at times. On the 285 its not bad but I also sound deadened my car, with 255's and probably better insulation in the Audi vs the Corvette should not be as much of an issue.
