    B7 2.0t quattro auto shifting issue

    Hey guys i just picked up a b7 but im having a bit of a problem, the car when started and put into drive will either drive perfectly normal but the PRNDS indication on the dis is just lit up red and doesnt show what gear you're in OR the indicator will work normally but when the car is put into D it automatically changes to 1-6 and will not shift, kind of like it is just throwing itself into tip mode. the only catch is even in tip mode it will not shift, putting it in "stronic" or whatever also changes nothing. The only way i have gotten the car to shift when this happens is throwing it into neutral and revving it which usually puts me in a higher gear. the only way to make it stop is turning the car off and back on so option A occurs. No cel or stored codes, im kind of stumped...

    Your transmission or torque converter is screwed. Hope you have a warranty as this is expensive. 7K for tranny, 2K for work and tc.

    At that point I'd just buy a junked manual b7 and do a 6MT swap

    You mean engine/6MT swap. From everything I've read the crankshaft is different between the 6MT and the Tip cars.

    Don't freak out yet, OP. I would recommend you take it somewhere that can diagnose the problem (a transmission specialist that knows Euros). It could be a sensor, could be the TC (known weak point on these cars), or it could be the entire tranny, but guessing is just gonna scare you.

    My TC is slowly starting to fail, but it doesn't really have those symptoms. Almost all the people I've read that had a TC problem first experienced RPM bouncing around 1500-1800RPM with light throttle. From what I've read, it's a problem with the TC locking and unlocking when it's in regulated mode. Eventually, it gets so bad it does throw a code that points to the TC failing. Your problem doesn't sound anything like that.

    going through the exact same issue right now! My guess is that it is the mechatronic valve body of the transmission! Getting it looked at professionalally on monday I will be sure to update you on what I find out!

    And dont let these guys scare you theres no way in hell you would have to pay 7 grand for a transmission unless you bought a brand new one from the factory! there are options and availible transmission out there for less than a grand I would be happy to help you find

    woah woah woah, lets cool this sewing circle. alright so when i first bought the car it had a p2015 code and i have cleared that and it's yet to return and the car passed inspection today. When the car does drive normally i dont notice any grinding or issues shifting so im going to put my money on a sensor/computer issue. i remember reading somewhere that someone was having a similar problem and went to the dealer and they reflashed the computer and it solved it?
    also 7k for a transmission?????? i can get a 2.7t swap and an 01E for less then that... actually forget that, I can get another b7 for that

    Here we go, that cloth thing that is supposed to move with the shifter is ripped, can that cause this?

    Also im making some progress, p2015 intake mani runner sensor cel came back, i got the car to shift flawlessly even while indicating gears (sadly that didnt last long, as soon as i put it back in park it stopped again) and also stronic mode works all of the time. Tiptronic still is completely not working

    Well I ended up getting the issue 80% fixed and the car is now more than drivable, but not without a slightly hard shift on 3rd and 5th gears. Ended up replacing valve body, put in pentosin atf fluid, and updated the software at the dealership. No more flashing PNDS no more violent bucking on third and 5th gears. Going to change the atf fluid once again to the audi blue fluid as soon as it comes in the mail, but I am weary that it will solve the issue, I belive my torque convertor is also failing due to the bouncing rpms under 2000 rpms under slight acceleration.

    One question that someone may have an answer to, When changing the atf filter, I noticed metal shavings in it? Possibly from the tc?

    Damn bickhouse i wish you were as lucky as i got. replacing the shifter slider (thing with the magnets) fixed the problem for me. No more issues... For now.
